Descanso Gardens is seeking a Guest Services Representative to provide excellent front-line customer service that promotes a welcoming and positive experience for all visitors. This role works directly with the public, members, staff, and volunteers across multiple guest service locations including the Visitor Center, membership table, ticketing podiums, Boddy House, Sturt Haaga Gallery, train, and courtesy shuttle.

Job Classification
This is a part-time, non-exempt position with shifts ranging from 4 to 8 hours. The gardens are open 364 days per year with extended evening hours during peak seasons. Weekend and evening availability is required, and schedules may vary based on departmental needs.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
• Ensure excellent customer service and positive visitor experiences.
• Perform guest services operations including admissions, ticket sales, membership sales, and call center support.
• Execute membership sales, renewals, and upgrades.
• Complete sales transactions accurately and efficiently.
• Educate visitors on garden policies with professionalism and tact.
• Handle visitor and member information with discretion.
• Stay informed on procedures, promotions, programs, and seasonal highlights.
• Staff exhibition spaces and assist with volunteer and employee training.
• Assist with train and courtesy shuttle operations.
• Receive training in First Aid, AED operation, and incident documentation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used & Physical Demands
• Computer, cash register, phone, credit card processing machine, printer, and two-way radio.
• Work occurs in both office and outdoor environments with public interaction.
• Ability to walk long distances and access non-paved areas.
• Ability to remain standing for extended periods.
• Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds.

Qualifications & Requirements
• 1 year of sales experience preferred.
• 2 years of customer service experience required.
• Experience with Altru by Blackbaud POS systems preferred.
• Intermediate knowledge of Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Sheets preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and telephone etiquette.
• Friendly, welcoming demeanor.
• Self-motivated with integrity and strong work ethic.
• Ability to interact with diverse groups including guests, volunteers, and vendors.
• Bilingual skills preferred but not required.
• Valid California driver's license required.

Compensation
$18.00 per hour
