Job title: Driver Airbag & Steering Wheel System Engineer
Location: Foster City, CA (Onsite, 5 days/week)
Job Summary
We are looking for a Driver Airbag & Steering Wheel System Engineer to lead the design, integration, and release of advanced restraint systems for next-generation autonomous vehicles. You will deliver complete, system-level solutions, ensuring driver airbags, steering wheel interfaces, and vehicle architecture meet ergonomics, electronics, safety, packaging, and manufacturing requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead integration of driver airbags, steering wheel components, horn, and switches
- Collaborate with Interiors, Steering, Electronics, Safety, and Manufacturing teams
- Define and manage interfaces between airbag module, switches, clock spring, and column electronics
- Develop subsystem technical specifications
- Use CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX) for design, packaging, and release
- Manage change control, issue tracking, and program execution using JIRA or equivalent
- Own system-level trade-offs across performance, cost, manufacturability, and serviceability
- Lead validation strategy and execution, including DVP&R and test planning
- Drive issue resolution and support supplier escalations
- Ensure production readiness through DFMEA, PFMEA, and launch support
Qualifications
- BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 4+ years of experience in automotive restraint systems, including driver airbag/steering wheel systems
- Experience with steering wheel integration, airbag modules, and related components
- Knowledge of electronics integration within steering systems
- Proficient in CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX)
- Experience with JIRA or similar tools for issue tracking and program management
- Experience working with Tier 1 suppliers and managing technical deliverables
- Strong understanding of DFMEA, DVP&R, GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and DFM
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional programs and make decisions under ambiguity
