Dept/Div: Public Works/Fleet Division ---FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

General Definition of Work

Serves as a liaison between the customers that need repairs performed on their vehicle and equipment and the mechanical staff who will provide the repairs. Work is performed under the limited supervision of Division Chief of Fleet Maintenance. Continuous oversight is exercised over inmates as assigned.

Essential Functions

Schedules and prioritizes services appointments, maintains service calendar for scheduled and unscheduled jobs

Creates repair orders and work orders for unscheduled repairs

Maintains and updates equipment records

Coordinates and communicates repair schedule between shop and customers

Maintains database of Corrections Certifications.

Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent service.

Supports Parts Attendant by providing necessary documentation for warranty parts

Greets outside employees in a timely, friendly manner and obtains vehicle information

Handles telephone inquiries regarding appointments, vehicle status, etc.

Maintains a professional appearance

Keeps work area clean and organized

Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent service.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of fleet shop operations, automotive repair policies and procedures, automotive manual comprehension, and understanding of automotive and equipment warranty information. Ability to master fleet maintenance software within a reasonable time frame. General knowledge of the operation, maintenance, capabilities, and limitations of equipment used in areas of assignment. General knowledge of equipment maintenance reports and work ticket flow and prioritization. Some knowledge of auto scanner tools and light duty vehicles. General knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions involved in the operation of equipment; ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions; ability to detect signs of mechanical failure of equipment; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to fuel and lubrication equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. Ability to make arithmetic computations and compute quantities.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, and sitting; frequently requires standing and walking and occasionally stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling; regularly reaching with hands and arms, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts; work requires using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; working frequently near moving mechanical parts, regular exposure to fumes or airborne particles and occasional exposure to vibration, fumes or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

Special Requirements

Prerequisite for this position is successful completion of a basic skills test that meets the standard for Peace Officer Standards and Training certification – if selected for consideration you will be provided information on the skills test.

Obtain Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Corrections Officer within six months.

Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State and Federal records.

Valid driver’s license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history (MVR).
