Job DescriptionMedical Assistant / Phlebotomist - Clinical Research

Location: [Binghamton, NY]
Schedule: [Full-Time/M-F 8am-5pm]

Length: 4 Month Contract (Possibility of extension or being brought on permanent)

We are seeking a Medical Assistant / Phlebotomist to join a growing clinical research team. This is an excellent opportunity for a Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, Patient Care Technician, or other hands-on clinical professional who is interested in building a career in clinical research.

Previous clinical research experience is not required. We are looking for candidates with strong patient-facing clinical skills, particularly experience with phlebotomy, vital signs, ECGs/EKGs, specimen collection, and patient care. Training in clinical research processes will be provided.

This role offers an opportunity to work directly with patients while supporting clinical trials that help advance new and innovative medical treatments.



What You'll Do

As a Medical Assistant / Phlebotomist, you will support the clinical research team with a variety of clinical, laboratory, administrative, and patient care responsibilities related to clinical trials.

  • Assist with the day-to-day conduct of clinical trials under the direction of the clinical research team.

  • Perform venipuncture, capillary punctures, and other protocol-required specimen collections within your scope of practice.

  • Obtain vital signs and assist with clinical assessments, including phlebotomy and ECGs/EKGs.

  • Process, package, and ship laboratory specimens according to study protocols and applicable requirements.

  • Maintain laboratory and study supply inventory, including tracking and ordering supplies as needed.

  • Assist with collecting, documenting, and maintaining accurate clinical and study-related information.

  • Enter study data and assist with resolving basic data queries under the direction of the Clinical Research Coordinator.

  • Support patient recruitment activities, including phone and in-person pre-screening of potential study participants.

  • Assist with preparing source documents, organizing study charts, filing medical records, and maintaining study documentation.

  • Support front office activities, including answering phones, scheduling patients, making reminder calls, and updating patient tracking systems.

  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly disinfected patient care and laboratory areas.

  • Identify and promptly escalate potential patient safety concerns to the appropriate clinical research team members.

  • Protect patient health information and maintain the confidentiality of study and patient information.

  • Learn and follow study protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), ICH guidelines, and site procedures.

  • Support the informed consent process and ongoing communication with study participants.

  • Communicate professionally with patients, coworkers, investigators, sponsors, CROs, and other members of the research team.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.



What We're Looking For

Required/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, Patient Care Technician, Medical Technician, or in another hands-on patient care role.

  • Strong phlebotomy and specimen collection skills are required.

  • Experience obtaining vital signs and working directly with patients.

  • Experience performing ECGs/EKGs is a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, patient-facing environment.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and protocols.

  • Comfortable learning new systems, processes, and technology.

  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

  • No previous clinical research experience is required.
