Job Description
This role supports landfill construction and cell development projects across the region by operating heavy equipment, primarily CAT D6 dozers and production excavators. You will perform grading, earthmoving, landfill cell construction, slope work, and material placement while meeting production goals and maintaining high safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate CAT D6 dozers and production excavators safely and efficiently on landfill and heavy civil construction projects.
- Construct and maintain landfill cells in accordance with project plans, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Perform grading, cut/fill, and earthmoving operations to achieve required elevations, tolerances, and compaction standards.
- Work confidently on slopes up to a 1:3 grade while maintaining slope tolerances and equipment stability.
- Utilize onboard Trimble GPS systems and machine control displays for grading, layout, and earthwork operations.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and layout information to execute work accurately.
- Perform hauling and earthmoving operations over average haul distances of approximately one-half mile in each direction.
- Conduct thorough daily equipment inspections and routine checks to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Report maintenance issues, equipment concerns, and safety hazards immediately to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain production goals while adhering strictly to safety protocols and site rules.
- Work independently in the field while consistently meeting productivity, quality, and safety standards.
- Assist with general labor tasks related to landfill construction and earthworks as needed.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3+ years of heavy equipment operating experience.
- 3+ years operating CAT dozers and/or production excavators.
- Hands-on experience on dozers and excavators in landfill, earthwork, site development, mining, quarry, or heavy civil projects.
- Proven ability to perform cut/fill, grading, and earthmoving operations to specified tolerances.
- Experience operating on steep grades and maintaining slope tolerances.
- Ability to read and interpret grade stakes, plans, and machine control displays.
- Strong attendance, reliability, and commitment to meeting project schedules.
- Ability to work extended hours, including 10–12 hour shifts, as project demands require.
- Capability to work independently while maintaining production and safety standards.
- High stamina and physical ability to perform general labor tasks in an outdoor construction environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on landfill construction, landfill cell building, grading, and compaction operations.
- Experience in site development, mining, quarry, or heavy civil construction projects.
- CAT equipment experience highly preferred; experience on comparable equipment is transferable.
- GPS experience preferred, particularly with Trimble systems and onboard machine control.
- Comfortable working on steep slopes and uneven terrain.
- Ability to travel extensively and work on projects throughout the region.
- No formal certifications required.

Work Environment
Work takes place in an outdoor landfill and heavy civil construction environment on active landfill construction projects. Employees typically work a five-day work week with regular overtime available, and frequent travel is required to support projects throughout the region. The role involves general labor tasks, high physical stamina, and regular exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, and steep slopes. The company provides a hard hat and safety vest, while employees are expected to supply steel-toe boots that cover the ankle, durable work pants, and T-shirts suitable for field work.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
