Viterbo University is seeking a passionate and experienced leader to serve as our Head Women's Basketball Coach and Athletic Eligibility Coordinator. As Head Coach, you will lead a competitive women's basketball program grounded in integrity, teamwork, and the NAIA's "Champions of Character" values. You'll mentor student-athletes through dynamic practices, strategic competition, and meaningful community involvement.
As the Athletic Eligibility Coordinator, you'll serve as a vital bridge between athletics and academics by ensuring compliance, supporting student success, and guiding eligibility processes across all athletic programs. Basketball Responsibilities:
- Responsible for organizing and overseeing all aspects of the team and program.
- Recruit high character, hard-working student-athletes to Viterbo University.
- Plan practices, prepare team for competition, coordinate off-season training program.
- Schedule competitions, coordinate travel, and manage budget.
- Monitor and foster academic progress of student-athletes.
- Coordinate team involvement with community outreach or service projects.
- Generate booster club support and assist with departmental fundraisers.
- Hire, train, supervise and evaluate assistant coaches.
- Support and adhere to all institutional policies outlined in the employee handbook.
- Teach and embrace the five core values of the NAIA's "Champions of Character" initiative.
- Ensure that all program operations comply with Viterbo, CCAC and NAIA rules
- Attend all required departmental, university, and conference meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Academic Eligibility Responsibilities:
- Serve as department liaison between the coaches, registrar, and faculty athletic representative.
- Initiate the eligibility certification process for each team through completion.
- Work closely with Academic Resource Center regarding student-athlete's academic progress.
- Plan annual staff and student educational sessions regarding eligibility rules and standards.
- Serve as department contact for student athletes and coaches regarding eligibility questions
- Review and approve class change requests from student-athletes after certification.
- Coordinate completion of all student releases, tracers, and transfer forms.
- Collect and maintain official team rosters of all intercollegiate athletic teams.
- Attend NAIA webinars, conferences and trainings as related to student-athlete eligibility.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
- Background in education, coaching or athletics administration desired. Experience as a successful high school or college coach preferred.
- Proven ability to teach skills and fundamentals of the game. Strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes.
- Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding and respect for Viterbo's Mission and Values.
- A willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
