Your Role as Superintendent / Operations Manager:
As the Superintendent / Operations Manager, you will serve as the operational leader directly under the Vice President. You will oversee daily yard operations, safety programs, equipment, inventory accuracy, and transloading coordination. You will also assist in critical construction and infrastructure projects, including new rail line installations and silo development.
This is a hands-on role requiring daily presence in the yard, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage people, processes, and large-scale operational initiatives. The long-term expectation is that this individual will grow into higher organizational leadership.
Key Responsibilities
???? Safety Leadership
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture.
- Train employees on site, material, and equipment safety.
- Maintain safety supply inventories and complete all incident and near-miss reports.
- Correct deficiencies found during weekly yard inspections.
- Ensure housekeeping and safe operations throughout the site.
???? Inventory Management
- Ensure accurate inventory materials.
- Immediately escalate discrepancies to the Vice President.
???? Training & Workforce Development
- Ensure all staff are cross-trained.
- Create and maintain a structured, ongoing training program.
???? Equipment Management
- Track and report daily equipment hours and oversee equipment storage.
- Coordinate work orders, repairs, and maintenance with shop and welding teams.
- Inspect rail cars and document inbound/outbound loads with drone photos.
- Monitor fuel usage and implement cost-reduction strategies.
- Analyze equipment operating costs and identify improvement opportunities.
???? Scale Operations & Software
- Ensure scale accuracy, calibration, and performance.
- Use software to generate timely reports.
- Learn control-point operations.
???? Operations Management
- Manage yard leadership with a focus on productivity and safety.
- Oversee yard security and access control.
- Supervise employees, set daily goals, and ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
- Coordinate all transloading activities with the Vice President.
- Support major construction projects, rail line installation, and infrastructure expansions.
???? Accounting, Purchasing & Budget Support
- Accurately track operational costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Review AP invoices for proper coding and accuracy.
- Create purchase orders as needed.
- Source competitive pricing.
- Assist in budget development and continuous budget oversight.
What You Need to Succeed

- Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook/Exchange, and operational software systems

✔ Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in:
- Construction industry
- Recycling industry
- Railroad or transloading operations
- Experience reading and interpreting plans
- Project management experience
- Proven experience leading teams
- Experience managing operations, equipment, and/or yard functions
- Ability to do support sales and business development
