We are looking for a skilled Legal Assistant to join our team in Summerville, South Carolina. In this Contract-to-permanent position, you will play a crucial role in providing administrative and legal support to attorneys while ensuring the smooth operation of case management processes. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism.
Responsibilities:
• Provide backup support by completing client intakes when intake staff are unavailable.
• Review intake documents to verify the completeness of information required for case initiation, and take steps to obtain missing details.
• Prepare personal injury forms and documents using Filevine, transcribe dictation, and draft or revise legal materials such as complaints, correspondence, demands, pleadings, and settlement documentation.
• Maintain detailed notes and records in Filevine, ensuring all assigned tasks are completed promptly and accurately.
• Coordinate attorney calendars by scheduling client meetings, depositions, mediations, hearings, and other appointments.
• Retrieve necessary medical records while documenting the type and time period of records requested.
• Organize and maintain physical files, ensuring documents and correspondence are filed systematically according to office procedures.
• Ensure the work area remains clean and orderly while safeguarding the custody of physical files.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by attorneys to support legal operations effectively.
• Proficiency in legal software tools such as Filevine, LeadDocket, and case management systems.
• Familiarity with personal injury law, workers’ compensation law, and related legal processes.
• Strong skills in calendar management, including scheduling and coordinating appointments.
• Experience with legal transcription, document drafting, and correspondence preparation.
• Ability to handle billing functions and manage client relations effectively.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate records and files.
• Knowledge of Automated City Register Information System (ACRIS) and CompuLaw is highly desirable.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks with professionalism and discretion.
