Vice President for Research
Wayne State University (Wayne State/WSU), a premier public research university in the heart of Detroit, invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Research (VPR).
The Vice President for Research serves as a member of the university's executive leadership team, reporting directly to the President, and works closely with the Provost and other members of the President’s Cabinet. The Vice President for Research is responsible for leading an office to mobilize and enhance Wayne State University's research capabilities and productivity; facilitating successful competition for external funding; and successfully demonstrating WSU's expertise in knowledge generation to respond to the regional and state needs of government, business, organizations, and individuals. The Office of the Vice President for Research also establishes and implements research policies and procedures, analyzes, and disseminates research productivity data, and represents the university's research interests to operations and organizations outside the university.
Wayne State is Michigan’s only urban research university, and holds the Carnegie Foundation’s highest ranking for both research intensiveness and community engagement.&nbsp; Wayne State’s research and development expenditures totaled nearly $242.2 million in fiscal year 2022 — a 10.9% increase since 2014. Based on NSF data, Wayne State ranked 72nd among public universities and 108th among all universities in FY21 research expenditures.
Wayne State has world-class research programs in the sciences, engineering, social sciences, education, law and humanities. The VPR will work closely with schools and colleges to expand external funding opportunities and to support faculty research and collaborations.
As the senior research officer of the university, the Vice President for Research is responsible for collaborating with relevant constituencies to develop and implement a vision, plan, and policies to guide and expand the university's research portfolio, and work with faculty to oversee critical aspects of the university's research infrastructure and operations.
Direct reports to the Vice President for Research currently include assistant/associate vice presidents, directors, staff members within the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR). The Division of Research consists of Sponsored Programs Administration, the Office of Research Compliance, the Division of Laboratory Animal Research, and the Office of Environmental Health and Safety. Four of the university’s 29 centers and institutes also report to the Vice President for Research.

In support of the mission and strategic plan of the university, the next VPR will be tasked with the following opportunities and expectations:

Specifically, in connection with the above, the VPR will:

<li>Oversee the work of the OVPR, Integrative Biosciences, Sponsored Program Administration, Research Compliance, Research Communications, Research Development, Translational Sciences and Clinical Research Innovation, Division of Laboratory Animal Research, Office of Environmental Health and Safety, Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics (dual with School of Medicine), Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Institute of Gerontology, and the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Develop and implement a vision, plan and policies to guide the university's broad research portfolio in achieving the research goals of the university through regular consultation with researchers and research advisory groups across the campus. Work closely with colleges, schools and centers to advance the broad research mission of Wayne State University. Develop innovative ways to support faculty in seeking grant opportunities.</li>
<li>Develop strategies to ensure the necessary research infrastructure is available and aligned with existing research strengths and emerging research opportunities.</li>
<li>Ensure compliance with all federal, state and university regulations governing research, and ensure that research is conducted according to the highest ethical standards.</li>
<li>Work closely with the Provost and research faculty and advisory groups in the schools, colleges and centers to develop, refine and implement a university-wide vision and strategic plan to strengthen the university’s research portfolio and raise its research ranking.</li>
<li>Work with the Office of the Provost to strengthen research within the academic programs, departments and centers or institutes.</li>
<li>Work with the Graduate School to recruit top doctoral students.</li>
<li>Promote multidisciplinary and translational research opportunities across the university, as well as identify, develop and nurture innovation, collaboration, and strategic research initiatives.</li>
<li>Partner with TechTown, the university’s affiliated business incubator and accelerator, to encourage the growth of the entrepreneurial ecosystem both within WSU and across the region.</li>
<li>Participate on the steering committee for the Office of Business Innovation, the university’s central resource for student entrepreneurship, technology commercialization and corporate relations.</li>
<li>Serve as a member of the leadership team for the University Research Corridor, an alliance of Michigan’s three leading research institutions.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet, the senior leadership team of the university, sharing common university-wide goals and accountability with other team members.</li>
<li>Develop, oversee, implement, fund and assess research initiatives as identified in and aligned with the university’s strategic plan; participate in strategic planning efforts.</li>
<li>Advise the President, Provost and Deans on research initiatives, policy and operations.</li>
<li>Communicate research results and information to research faculty, university administrators, and other internal and external research constituencies.</li>
<li>Cultivate relationships with governmental granting and regulatory agencies and industry to aid in improving WSU’s research efforts and identification of research opportunities.</li>
<li>Foster an environment that recognizes research excellence, collegiality, and scholarship across the university.</li>

Professional Qualifications and Key Attributes:

The Animal Cruelty Investigation &amp; Rescue Manager (I&amp;R Manager) is responsible for managing successful animal cruelty investigations and rescue operations for Pasados Safe Haven, under the guidance of the Legislative Affairs Director &amp; General Counsel. In this capacity, responsibilities include building positive relationships with law enforcement, animal control, prosecutors and other animal welfare organizations, case investigations, research, and logistics management. In addition, this role develops and produces training events (large and small) for a variety of professional audiences.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

<li>Respond to animal cruelty cases including but not limited to investigative research and assisting law enforcement on responses; prepare professional Investigators Reports for cases when working with law enforcement and prosecutors</li>
<li>Manage case investigation documentation, including the collection of evidence and ensuring chain of custody standards are met; ensure all cases worked are maintained in the I&amp;R database with accurate and complete records, including photos and video</li>
<li>Develop and maintain partnerships with veterinarians to provide case assistance, including forensic testing and expert testimony when needed to support a criminal case</li>
<li>Provide professional expert testimony in cases when they go to trial</li>
<li>Plan and manage animal rescues in partnership with external partners and PSH Sanctuary Team</li>
<li>Support legislative initiatives through expert input and testimony</li>
<li>Develop, plan, and lead in-person and virtual law enforcement, animal control, prosecutor, and veterinary training opportunities, as appropriate</li>
<li>Correspond with prosecutors, law enforcement, public officials, and the general public in a professional manner</li>
<li>Serve as primary contact for PSH Intake Team</li>
<li>Monitor incoming cruelty reports during normal working hours; monitor emergency calls on a shift basis</li>
<li>Performs other duties as assigned by management</li>
</ul>

<li>Continually grow knowledge and understanding of current Washington State Animal Control laws</li>
<li>Participate in legislative events, general events, and fundraising activities as needed </li>

Required Skills/Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Minimum of 5 years experience in animal cruelty investigation, law enforcement or private investigation required; and experience/training working with animals preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. </li>
<li>Animal Cruelty Investigation certification through an accredited investigative training program. </li>
<li>Must have a valid Washington state drivers license and maintain a clean driving record. </li>
<li>Must be comfortable working in a fast paced and dynamic environment while working with many species of animals.</li>
<li>Must be a hard worker, detail oriented, with common sense, and able to think under pressure to make educated decisions for the organization and the animals involved. </li>
<li>Must be a self-starter who is able to work independently and prioritize effectively, possess strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills. </li>
<li>Must understand and accurately follow medical directions. </li>
<li>Exceptional people management and communication skills; must be respectful, compassionate, and patient with all animals, volunteers, and co-workers; convey a positive attitude, maintain a calming demeanor, and remain non-emotional during stressful situations (e.g., animal emergencies, suspect confrontation, etc.);</li>

Surveillance Investigator (SI) - Insurance Fraud Investigation/Field Mobility
 
Marshall Investigative Group (MIG), the industry's leading investigative firm, seeks self-motivated individuals with experience in criminal justice, surveillance, mobile investigations, military, or police officer backgrounds to assist in insurance fraud claim's research involving monetary, bodily injury, theft, and property damage.
 
We are hiring a Surveillance Investigator (SI) to conduct mobile surveillance for legal documentation purposes. Maybe local or regional.
 
This is an excellent way for an individual to grow their experience in surveillance and security fields. With over 15 years of experience, our highly trained investigators have conducted thousands of successful insurance claim investigations by obtaining innumerable hours of claim-disputing documentation, saving our clients millions of dollars on fraudulent claims.
 
General Duties
<ul>
<li>Follow established protocols and procedures for conducting surveillance operations in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.</li>
<li>Maintain a vigilant and discreet presence, avoiding detection, while observing subjects and their daily actions.</li>
<li>Document and report findings, incidents, and observations accurately and promptly.</li>
<li>Conduct mobile surveillance operations utilizing various monitoring equipment, including cameras and specialized devices.</li>
<li>Operate surveillance equipment and technology proficiently, troubleshooting technical issues as needed.</li>
<li>Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding sensitive information obtained during the preparation for and during surveillance operations.</li>
<li>Prepare, review, and submit detailed reports of findings, incidents, and investigations within 48 hours. Reports must be concise, grammatically correct, easy to follow, and include all supporting documentation within 48 hours of surveillance completion.</li>
<li>Participate in training programs and professional development activities to enhance surveillance skills and stay updated on industry best practices.</li>
<li>Perform other duties as assigned by management and support the organization's overall security and safety objectives.</li>

At the Marshall Investigative Group (MIG), our hourly rates, flexible day scheduling benefits, and expense/mileage reimbursements exceed the industry. All expenses are covered, including training, licensing, and testing fees. Comprehensive benefits are available for full-time agents. This position may require travel within your investigative region to accommodate full-time hours and client needs.
 
Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Must have a current driver's license (a clean driving record may be required).</li>
<li>Prefer Private Investigator license holder but will review individuals that are able to obtain a license. (states may be restricted based on age and citizenship).</li>
<li>A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate or bachelor's degree is preferred (Criminal Justice, Security Management, or related field)</li>
<li>Previous experience in mobile surveillance, law enforcement, foot patrol, or a related field is highly desirable.</li>
<li>For full time, individuals must be able to travel.</li>
<li>Must have or able to obtain Auto insurance with 100/300/100 coverage limits.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, observing and conducting surveillance for 10 hours per day, with the possibility of weekends, and may include some travel as requested or needed.</li>
<li>Strong observational skills with attention to detail, having the ability to maintain focus for extended periods.</li>
<li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate findings and observations clearly and effectively.</li>
<li>Proficiency in operating surveillance equipment and related technology.</li>
<li>Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive situations.</li>
<li>Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations governing surveillance operations.</li>
</ul>
 
Pay Scale: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
