MEC is looking for Full-time TRANSPORTATION CONSTRUCTION INSPECTORS (TCI-1 or higher) with experience working on heavy highway, bridge, airport runways &amp; taxiways and other transportation construction projects. The positions will located within the western PA area.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

<li>Knowledge of procedures and techniques used in highway and bridge inspection.</li>
<li>Knowledge of procedures and techniques used in performing tests on construction materials.</li>
<li>Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in the collection/evaluation of technical data.</li>
<li>Ability to read and interpret construction codes, plans, standards, and specifications.</li>
<li>Ability to perform required cost estimating, computations and calculations.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently and make technical decisions.</li>

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

Requirements:

<li>General knowledge of surveying methods, equipment and material used in highway construction</li>

<li>Monitor and perform all types of inspection work on complex and routine highway projects.</li>
<li>Perform and maintain daily record keeping of project activities and prepare monthly project estimates.</li>
<li>Take field measurements of various completed work items and make calculations to determine contract pay quantities.</li>
<li>Read plans and blueprints.</li>
</ul>
Skills and Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>High School diploma or equivalent. </li>
<li>Working knowledge of mathematics in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry and the ability to apply formulas. </li>
<li>Proficient in using iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox and/or OneDrive.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently, use own judgment and make decisions. </li>
<li>Good written and verbal communication skills.</li>
<li>Ability to perform required testing and maintain detailed reports.</li>
<li>Ability to communicate effectively with agency and contractor personnel and the general public.</li>
<li>Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge and structure plans and contract specifications.</li>
<li>Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion. </li>
<li>Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision to perform tasks. </li>
<li>Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, on occasion.</li>
<li>Ability to work outside in various weather conditions. </li>
<li>Valid Driver's license with a good driving record and ability to drive. </li>
<li>Level II Technicians: Minimum four years of relevant experience. Must be able to perform duties without supervision and be able to read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirements.</li>
<li>Level III Technicians: Minimum five years of relevant experience. Must be able to perform duties without supervision and be able to read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirements.</li>
<li>Level IV Technicians: Minimum seven years of relevant experience. May serve as a Lead Project Inspector performing general project oversight and communication with the contractor and NCDOT. Will be responsible for supervising lower-level technicians while providing guidance as needed.</li>
</ul>
