Associate Professor of Law (9-Mo-TT)

Position Summary
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) currently consists of 16 attorneys working collaboratively to provide a full range of legal services to Columbia University. &nbsp;OGC is seeking an attorney to work primarily on employment related issues in connection with Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC).&nbsp; CUIMC is one of the nation’s largest academic medical centers, and includes the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, School of Dental Medicine, Mailman School of Public Health and School of Nursing. &nbsp;Experience in employment law is required. The ideal candidate would also have experience in a university or hospital setting or background in healthcare law. &nbsp;The Assistant/Associate title and salary will be commensurate with level of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Provide advice and counsel to the General Counsel and CUIMC clients on a wide range of faculty and other employee matters; Be responsible for employment related litigation and pre-litigation matters including: Support internal investigations and audits, Review and answer/direct subpoenas, and Participate in, oversee and provide guidance on mediation, arbitration, grievances and disciplinary actions, and collective bargaining;</li>

Develop litigation strategy and oversee outside counsel in litigation matters; Respond to inquiries on regulatory matters and advise on and support compliance activities; Develop, draft and interpret University policies including those related to CUIMC’s faculty and staﬀ; Prepare documents and review/negotiate agreements; and Support all University related legal efforts as needed.
Minimum Qualifications &amp; Skills
Education:
A Juris Doctor degree from a nationally recognized law school with excellent academic credentials in law school and in undergraduate studies.

DEFINITION: Under direction, this position provides orientation, mediation, evaluation, and Court-ordered investigations in child custody/visitation Court cases and may provide mediation, investigations in Juvenile Dependency and contested relative guardianship Court cases. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This is a journey level position that works closely with judicial officers, attorneys, county agencies, and unrepresented litigants. This class is distinguished from the Senior Mediator class in that the latter has supervisory authority of assigned Family Court Services staff.
Typical Tasks/Representative Duties
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
<ul>
<li>Assists the Court and families in resolving child custody and visitation disputes by providing mediation services; provides investigations, assessments, and recommendations as required by law and as directed by the Court;</li>
<li>Provides mediation and investigation in Juvenile Dependency and/or contested guardianship cases as directed by the Court;</li>
<li>Provides orientation and parent education services for the parties involved in disputes;</li>
<li>Observes and assesses risk factors, including domestic violence and child abuse issues and potential for danger to self and others; takes appropriate action including statutory reporting requirements;</li>
<li>Testifies in Court as the Court's expert witness, subject to cross-examination;</li>
<li>Performs other related duties as required.</li>

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

<li>A California State license as a psychotherapist or other related licensure, and at least two (2) years of experience in Family court services, family counseling and/or clinical assessment;</li>

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work environment is generally clean, inside buildings, with limited exposure to dust, fumes, odors, and noise. Possess and maintain ability to drive for field travel. The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians invites passionate and motivated individuals to apply for the position of Youth Engagement Specialist (Y.E.S.). This pivotal role focuses on fostering and enhancing the career and personal development of the Tribal youth within the Douglas County service area. The Y.E.S. will be responsible for facilitating career counseling, developing career readiness programs, and organizing youth engagement activities tailored to uplift and empower the community's youth.
This is a Full-Time position located directly within the community served. Please note that this is not a remote job opportunity, requiring face-to-face interactions and on-site engagement to meet the program’s goals and objectives effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Assist students (Middle School through High School) with career development and planning processes, including obtaining information for employment and/or post-secondary education opportunities. Assists with the transition from school to career and/or school to college/training.</li>
<li>Administer the Tribal Summer Youth Program.</li>
<li>Distribute information on Career Center resources including job postings via in-person, website, social media platforms, and Tribal newsletter, targeted email marketing campaigns.</li>
<li>Share resources and forms located on Education Department website.</li>
<li>Provide all other resources needed to assist students with their individualized plan to employment.</li>
<li>Engage with students to support the academic success of completing requirements that will lead to a high school diploma or GED.</li>
<li>Perform the duties as an educational advocate or mediator between families and school for identified student with learning disabilities that lead to an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) or on 504 plans, as per IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) practices. To provide transitional school to work opportunities support.</li>
<li>Follows all Tribal Government offices’ policies and procedures, confidentiality of educational records.</li>
<li>Produce and maintain reports relevant to case management, using applicable technology as required, this includes data tracking for grant reporting.</li>
<li>Attend professional development conferences, meetings, and online training relevant to job duties.</li>
<li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li>

Requirements

<li>Associates Degree; required.</li>
<li>Bachelor’s Degree; preferred.</li>
<li>Career coaching certificate, and/or prior experience in career coaching or case management; preferred.</li>
<li>Ability to establish rapport and relate well to students, faculty, employers, parents, and staff.</li>
<li>Effective communication with strong written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.</li>
<li>Knowledge and skills in career development and coaching.</li>
<li>Knowledge and skills in outreach and marketing, including digital flyer design and creative student engagement (i.e., Canva, WeVideo, Survey Monkey).</li>
<li>Career resource development skills and familiarity with online career technologies, such as online career search sites.</li>
<li>Ability to collaborate with the Education Programs Manager in program development specific to career readiness.</li>
<li>Organizational, detail-oriented, problem-solving, and project management skills.</li>
<li>Ability to gather and analyze outcomes data to evaluate and improve career center support programs.</li>
<li>Ability to learn, understand cultural awareness within which students live and practice in a Tribal community.</li>
<li>Helpful to have Counseling, Human Resources, or related field. Experience in program development, delivery, and teaching.</li>

• Monitors expenditures related to vendor and contractor services, including material costs, labor charges, and additional expenses. • Works closely with the project team to adhere to budgetary constraints and identify cost-saving opportunities where possible. • Maintains accurate records of vendor contracts, work orders, invoices, and project documentation. • Generates regular reports detailing vendor performance, work progress, and budget utilization for review by project stakeholders. • Other duties as assigned.

Reporting directly to the President, the CCFPO provides independent oversight and coordination of an institutional compliance program that promotes a culture of compliance and the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and responsibility within the College community. By partnering with leaders and staff across compliance-intensive areas, the CCFPO provides strategic leadership and collaborative oversight of all compliance-related activities for the College. Key ResponsibilitiesPolicy Management &amp; Institutional Governance • Oversees the development, revision, maintenance, and discontinuation of College policies, procedures, and the College Manual. • Works with vice presidents, faculty, and staff governance bodies, and policy owners to ensure the College maintains a comprehensive and compliant set of policies and procedures. • Establishes and maintains a centralized policy library or repository of official College policies and procedures. • Working with Strategic Communications ensures that public-facing communications (e.g., the website) reflect current policies, procedures, and laws.
