The News &amp; Content unit of the University of Virginia’s <a href="https://communications.virginia.edu/" target="_blank">Office of Communications</a> seeks a Senior Editor to help us tell the dynamic story of UVA and to advance its strategic priorities through content that engages with and grows a multitude of audiences.
This position would be ideal for a seasoned, mature editor at a daily newspaper, magazine or online publication with significant deadline experience and a track record of working with writers to generate compelling stories and improve copy.
The Senior Editor, reporting to the UVA Today Managing Editor, will oversee several direct reports; edit copy for grammar, accuracy, and adherence to Associated Press and local style; and research and write stories as needed. The ideal candidate will be a sharp-eyed, detail-focused journalist who efficiently shepherds daily stories through the editing process while also taking the time to help writers improve their craft. Responsibilities:

Area of expertise may range from medieval to contemporary, with specialty and chronological focus open. The APFF’s primary responsibility will be to serve as Managing Editor for the Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies with an additional 1:1 course load teaching Spanish language courses in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. 2. Review and approve page proofs and digital releases — You will evaluate materials as they move through the different stages of development to ensure they are ready to publish. You will ensure the look, feel, accuracy, and function of these products meets NCCER's standards. This includes quality checks on PDF proofs, reviewing digital courses before they go live, and assessing a range of other products to move them through the development cycle to completion. 
 
3. Communicate and collaborate with cross-functional teams — In this role, you will work closely and communicate regularly with technical writers, designers, project managers, artists, and other editors to ensure quality and efficiency of all external-facing materials. HeartCry Missionary Society is seeking a Managing Editor to oversee and safeguard the quality of all written content produced by the ministry. This role ensures that publications are clear, accurate, theologically sound, and consistent with HeartCrys mission and convictions.
 
This role oversees the editorial process from concept to publication, ensuring that written materials faithfully represent the ministry's work and honor Christ in tone, structure, and substance. Through disciplined editorial judgment and careful leadership of writers, the Managing Editor protects trust with missionaries, churches, and supporters. The work of this role ensures that everything published by HeartCry reflects excellence, restraint, and doctrinal faithfulness.
 
The Managing Editor must exercise discernment, theological clarity, and structural judgment while guiding others toward stronger work. The Managing Editor serves as a final editorial gatekeeper, exercising theological clarity and structural judgment to ensure that all written communication is worthy of the mission it represents.
 
Key Responsibilities

<li>Clear theological alignment with HeartCrys doctrinal convictions, including substantial agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith</li>

<li>Willingness to work in person and collaborate closely with a team</li>

Preferred Experience

<li>Editorial leadership or management experience</li>
<li>Ministry or missions-related publishing experience</li>
<li>Written materials experience (magazines, tracts, periodicals)</li>
<li>Experience coordinating with design or production teams</li>

Project Management: Develop timelines, tasks, and progress to ensure all projects meet quality standards. Utilize processes, tools, and techniques to ensure that the team is organized and focused.
 
Ministry Vision and Theology: Integrate HeartCrys vision and theology into all written media strategies and outputs.
 
Oversee Content: Review and approve all content produced by the written media team, ensuring consistency with HeartCrys theology, culture, vision, and excellence.
 
HeartCry Mission Statement: The goal of our ministry is to glorify God and bring the greatest possible good to humankind through the preaching of the gospel and the establishment of biblical churches throughout the world by means of equipping and mobilizing Indigenous churches and missionaries.
