The News &amp; Content unit of the University of Virginia’s <a href="https://communications.virginia.edu/" target="_blank">Office of Communications</a> seeks a Senior Editor to help us tell the dynamic story of UVA and to advance its strategic priorities through content that engages with and grows a multitude of audiences.
This position would be ideal for a seasoned, mature editor at a daily newspaper, magazine or online publication with significant deadline experience and a track record of working with writers to generate compelling stories and improve copy.
The Senior Editor, reporting to the UVA Today Managing Editor, will oversee several direct reports; edit copy for grammar, accuracy, and adherence to Associated Press and local style; and research and write stories as needed. The ideal candidate will be a sharp-eyed, detail-focused journalist who efficiently shepherds daily stories through the editing process while also taking the time to help writers improve their craft. He or she will be attuned to news and current events and be able to quickly identify opportunities to showcase UVA’s students, faculty and staff in the context of the day’s key stories and issues.
Our Content &amp; News team operates a high-quality newsroom that values timeliness and urgency in its content, and collaborates to produce one of higher education’s most successful news products, and the most important strategic communications platform at the University. Responsibilities:

Area of expertise may range from medieval to contemporary, with specialty and chronological focus open. The APFF’s primary responsibility will be to serve as Managing Editor for the Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies with an additional 1:1 course load teaching Spanish language courses in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. You will edit each line of text, checking for grammar, style, spelling, and factual errors. You will also ensure that all agreed MS Word styles are applied accurately to the manuscript.
 
2. Review and approve page proofs and digital releases — You will evaluate materials as they move through the different stages of development to ensure they are ready to publish. This stage is more focused on ensuring the quality of the final product, as well as interplay between text and graphic elements. You will ensure the look, feel, accuracy, and function of these products meets NCCER's standards. This includes quality checks on PDF proofs, reviewing digital courses before they go live, and assessing a range of other products to move them through the development cycle to completion. 
 
3. Communicate and collaborate with cross-functional teams — In this role, you will work closely and communicate regularly with technical writers, designers, project managers, artists, and other editors to ensure quality and efficiency of all external-facing materials. With so many key players and moving parts, effective communication and collaboration with both in-house and remote colleagues will be essential to project success. 
 
4. Contribute to editorial processes and decisions — You will work with lead editors and/or the managing editor to help refine and enhance editorial processes and contribute to style guide updates as needed. As part of a collaborative environment, your perspective will be invaluable to ensuring consistency, efficiency, and quality across all products. 
 
5. Maintain efficient workflows and meet deadlines — You will be responsible for tracking your own time and tasks to ensure completion and delivery of files in a timely manner. Job Description*This is a contingent opportunity&nbsp;The Technical Editor is responsible for reviewing, editing, and formatting products produced by the Assessment Team to include in/out briefs, formatting/finalized Reports, reviewing, formatting, and finalizing COAs for presentation to MACB, background papers, memorandums, and other such documents. &nbsp;&nbsp;Duties:
<ul>
<li>Reviews intelligence products for proper grammar, punctuation, and syntax, as well as for logic, clarity, and consistency. </li>
<li>Ensures that style and format conform to agency publication standards and that language presentation is consistent with prescribed style guides and specialized vocabulary of subject matter fields. </li>
<li>Amends draft tables, tone boxes, and graphics to ensure the content supports and is consistent with the accompanying text. </li>
<li>Ensures proper classification markings in accordance with IC guidance. </li>
<li>Works with authors to revise products for narrative organization, and negotiates further revisions as needed. </li>
<li>Performs other job-related duties as assigned</li>
</ul>
Required Experience:&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>Minimum of eight (8) years of related experience is desired with at least a portion of the experience within the last two (2) years.</li>
<li>Ability to produce timely, logical, and concise analytic reports, documents, assessments, studies, and briefing materials in formats including Microsoft Office tools (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), electronic / soft copy matrices and / or web-enabled formats.</li>
<li>Demonstrates ability to communicate complex issues clearly in a concise and organized manner both verbally and non-verbally; with strong grammar skills.</li>
<li>Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Office tools.</li>
<li>Demonstrates ability to develop structured research including, but not limited to, obtaining, evaluating, organizing, and maintaining information within security and data protocols. </li>
<li>Demonstrates ability to recognize nuances and resolve contradictions and inconsistencies in information.</li>
<li>Knowledgeable of and demonstrates ability to apply IC and DoD classification guidelines and procedures.</li>
<li>Demonstrates ability to use logic and systematic approaches to gather, evaluate, and synthesize multiple sources of information.</li>
