ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES 
Patient Care:

<li>Evaluates patient’s functional status (muscle function, endurance, visual coordination, written and verbal communication skills, self care ability, work capacity, etc.). </li>
<li>Evaluates home environment for hazards or barriers to more independent living. Identifies equipment needs. Participates in the development of the total plan of care.</li>
<li>For patients who plan to return to work, the occupational therapist may perform work capacity evaluation and may refer to specialized vocational training in accordance with Organization policy.</li>
<li>Develops treatment program and establishes goals for improved function. Communicates plan of care to referring physician and other Organization professionals.</li>
<li>May teach new skills or retrain patient in once familiar daily activities that have been lost due to illness or injury, in accordance with Organization policy.</li>
<li>May fabricate splints and instruct patient in the use of various types of adaptive equipment to improve function.</li>
<li>May train patient in the use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.</li>

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
1. Graduate of an occupational therapy curriculum accredited jointly by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
2. Registered with the National Registration Examination of the American Occupational Therapy Association.
3. Two years of clinical experience as an occupational therapist.
4. Possesses and maintains current CPR Certification.
5. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured and in accordance with state/or organization requirements and is in good working order.

<li>Education and/or Experience: Must be a graduate of a professional training program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association with at least a Bachelor's degree from said four-year college or university.</li>
<li>Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and response to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public.</li>
<li>Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute percentages.</li>
<li>Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.</li>
<li>Computer Skills: Knowledgeable in Internet navigation using Internet Explorer and basic computer skills to utilize email, and open and close documents.</li>
<li>Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: NBCOT certification and current Occupational Therapist license, registration and/or certification as per the State of Michigan regulations.</li>

Other Qualifications/Job Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Prepare daily therapy schedule, with maximum effort to avoid conflicts with other therapist schedules and patient appointments.</li>
<li>Screens to be completed quarterly as well as by referral per facility policy.</li>
<li>Communicate with other health care professionals, verbally and in writing, in regards to nursing concerns, changes in functional status, adaptive equipment needs, or any aspect of the patient/resident's care that would involve other departments.</li>
<li>Update Careplan and Kardex daily as needed.</li>
<li>Complete billing sheets, productivity sheets, and manages caseload tracking log with treatment duration adjustments as needed and/or per departmental policy.</li>
<li>Participates in home evaluations. Must be able to travel within a 30-minute area of this facility using personal vehicle. Facility will reimburse all therapists for mileage related to home evaluations.</li>
<li>Make recommendations as to discharge planning in regards to projected setting and discharge date.</li>
<li>Develop functional maintenance programs and restorative aide training.</li>
<li>Participates in inservices, staff meetings, team meetings, continuing education courses, patient conferences, and other meetings as needed.</li>
<li>Maintains a clean and safe environment and demonstrates safe work-place practices.</li>
<li>Assist with departmental maintenance and supplies.</li>
<li>Any other duties as assigned by the Rehabilitation Services Supervisor.</li>
<li>Must maintain a positive attitude.</li>
<li>Available to work weekends at the discretion of the Rehabilitation Services Supervisor.</li>
