Night Shift Position Qualification/Requirements:
• Possess and maintains a current registration as a Radiological Technologist with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with a subspecialty certification as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist as determined by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). 
• Provide evidence of work experience as an full time MRI technologist of at least eighteen (18) continuous months within the preceding twenty-four (24) months, to include experience with digital imaging and electronic Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). 
• Possess experience operating MRI equipment at a 1.5T or 3.0T field strength. 
• Possess ARRT approved continuing medical education of at least 12 hours within the last 12 months. Specific Duties: 
• HCWs must be able to perform exams on all MRI scanners. 
• HCWs will assist in sorting, distribution and entering radiologist’s protocols for MRI patient exam consults daily. 
• Verify and identify patient and procedure information in accordance with command policy. 
• Evaluate patients for contrast compatibility: GFR (Globular Filtration Rate), allergy history, contrast contraindications. 
• Review MRI safety screening and information to assess patient safety. Document implant information for the Magnetic Resonance Safety Officer (MRSO) and the Magnetic Resonance Medical Director (MRMD) to evaluate for patient safety approval. 
• Screen patients utilizing the ferromagnetic detector system per manufacturer and department protocol. 
 • Explain and prepare the patient for procedure to be performed, answer any relevant questions. Provide for physical and emotional (claustrophobia) comfort of the patient to ensure patient position for exam to be performed and cooperation. 
• The HCW shall log arrival and departure of patients in the command’s hospital information system (CHCS) and in the scanner logbooks. Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for5 reading via the PACS according to department protocols. 
• Perform a full range of MRI scans: o Brain- brain, orbits, pituitary, cranial nerves, IAC, trauma, per radiologist o Brain MRA/MRV- COW, sinus thrombosis, carotids, per radiologist o Body- liver, kidney, pancreas, screening, per radiologist o Body MRA/MRV o Breast- screening, biopsies, per radiologist o Cardiac- morphology and/or function, stress, per radiologist o Neck- soft tissue, per radiologist o Chest- mediastinum, brachial plexus, per radiologist o Pelvis- boney, female UFE, prostate, per radiologist o Upper extremity- hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, humerus, shoulder, arthrograms, per radiologist o Lower extremity- foot, ankle lower leg, knee, femur, hip, arthrograms, per radiologist o Extremity MRA/MRV- Runoff, prescribed by radiologist protocol. o Multiplanar and 3D volume reconstructions and/ renderings- designate by radiologist protocol. o Perfusion- brain, per radiologist o Spectroscopy- Single and multi-voxel per radiologist protocol 
• Select the proper coil and equipment for the body part that is being examined. 
• Properly position and pad the patient in the scanner to prevent thermal burns. 
• Require starting IV’s for contrast administration or in support of the nursing or anesthesia staff. 
 • Provide support for anesthesia, including safety screening staff and equipment, operation and placement of monitoring equipment and infusion pumps. 
• Discuss the technical and clinical aspects of the patient's care as related to the patient's MRI scan with the diagnostic radiologists, attending physicians, attending nurses or senior MRI technologist. • Review all images, send appropriate image series, and check PACs for each exam to ensure ALL images transmit from the scanner to the radiologist for reading according to department policy. 
• Perform daily checks of the crash cart, and monthly checks of emergency contrast reaction kits and restroom emergency call bells. 
• Perform system calibrations and quality control tasks according to manufacturer and command instructions. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government personnel of outlying values. Perform minor troubleshooting of the MRI scanner per manufacturer's recommendation and established protocols. 
• Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify the designated government personnel of equipment issues. 
• Perform minor troubleshooting of the MRI scanner per manufacturer recommendations for technologists and established protocols. 
• Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by notifying designated Government personnel. Report problems to the Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the trouble call logbook. 
• Maintain MRI suite including stocking supplies, cleaning, taking out linen per shift, and taking sharps containers to Biohazard room as needed. Participate in the radiology department’s rotation for pick up and drop off of both. 
• Participate in all mandatory MRI Safety Training or education issued by the MRMR. 
• Participate in the rotation for On Call coverage for all holidays or uncovered shifts.
