Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking Transportation Construction Inspectors from Trainees to Level IV to work with our Construction Engineering Inspection team on highway construction projects in the Shelby area and throughout North Carolina.
Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Assist in the inspection of various roadways and structures construction operations and perform a variety of calculations and computations with supervision.</li>
<li>Perform materials sampling and testing.</li>
<li>Collect materials weigh tickets and conduct various roadway tests to ensure materials delivered to project meets specifications and are placed in accordance with standard specification.</li>
<li>Monitor and perform all types of inspection work on complex and routine highway projects.</li>
<li>Perform and maintain daily record keeping of project activities and prepare monthly project estimates.</li>
<li>Take field measurements of various completed work items and make calculations to determine contract pay quantities.</li>
<li>Read plans and blueprints.</li>
</ul>
Skills and Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>High School diploma or equivalent. </li>
<li>Working knowledge of mathematics in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry and the ability to apply formulas. </li>
<li>Proficient in using iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox and/or OneDrive.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently, use own judgment and make decisions. </li>
<li>Good written and verbal communication skills.</li>

<li>Level II Technicians: Minimum four years of relevant experience. Must be able to perform duties without supervision and be able to read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirements.</li>
<li>Level III Technicians: Minimum five years of relevant experience. Must be able to perform duties without supervision and be able to read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirements.</li>
<li>Level IV Technicians: Minimum seven years of relevant experience. May serve as a Lead Project Inspector performing general project oversight and communication with the contractor and NCDOT. Will be responsible for supervising lower-level technicians while providing guidance as needed.</li>

We are currently searching for talented CEI Inspectors to support our Carolinas Region on the Alligator River bridge replacement project located in Tyrrell &amp; Dare Counties (North Carolina). This position welcomes candidates who are willing to relocate to North Carolina’s Outerbanks area. This is an immediate need. The project duration is estimated to be 3-years.
The successful candidate will perform technical duties supporting engineers and other professionals in the administration of highway construction. Such areas include, construction inspection, project roadway/structure inspection, materials testing, project surveying, and program/regulatory compliance. (This position corresponds with the NCDOT Engineering (Transportation) Technician I &amp; through IV.) 
To be considered for this position, applicants musthave, at minimum, an Associate's degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution.
What you’ll be doing:
<ul>
<li>Inspection for compliance with contract documents, standards, and specifications</li>
<li>Testing of materials; review of plans; analysis of engineering-related data; and construction survey/layout</li>
<li>Keeping daily diaries on project operations, resolves daily constructability issues and trouble shoots problems to mitigate delays to contractor’s progress</li>
<li>Monitors contractor's daily operations and performs and/or reviews test reports to ensure that all work and materials conform to specifications, plans and contractual provisions. Also monitors utility relocation efforts by inspecting and tracking relocation work</li>
