Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking Transportation Construction Inspectors from Trainees to Level IV to work with our Construction Engineering Inspection team on highway construction projects in the Shelby area and throughout North Carolina.
Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Assist in the inspection of various roadways and structures construction operations and perform a variety of calculations and computations with supervision.</li>
<li>Perform materials sampling and testing.</li>
<li>Collect materials weigh tickets and conduct various roadway tests to ensure materials delivered to project meets specifications and are placed in accordance with standard specification.</li>
<li>Monitor and perform all types of inspection work on complex and routine highway projects.</li>
<li>Perform and maintain daily record keeping of project activities and prepare monthly project estimates.</li>
<li>Take field measurements of various completed work items and make calculations to determine contract pay quantities.</li>
<li>Read plans and blueprints.</li>

Skills and Qualifications:

Key Role Requirements:

<li>The Inspector will compute daily pay quantities and prepare field adjustment estimates, inform project management of issues that arise in the field and assist in resolution as directed and contribute feedback to Project Inspector for evaluations for all prime contractors and agreed-upon subcontractors</li>
<li>Conduct materials tests to assure all materials meet requirements set forth in the Materials Manual of Instructions, ensure work zones and other safety requirements and environmental permit requirements are met, and ensure that utility work is documented accurately through daily reports.</li>

Requirements:

<li>Minimum of two (2) years' experience as an Inspector</li>
<li>Senior Inspectors must have approximately eight (8) years of experience with a focus on highway and transportation related project experience</li>
<li>High School Diploma or GED required, Associates degree in civil engineering technology or similar focus preferred</li>
<li>Construction experience required</li>
<li>General knowledge of surveying methods, equipment and material used in highway construction</li>
<li>Working knowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry</li>
<li>Ability to read and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures</li>
<li>Basic computer skills including use of email, internet, Microsoft office programs and use of iPad</li>
