Job Description
The EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring System) Technician is responsible for the successful integration, configuration, and support of electrical power monitoring solutions within industrial and commercial environments. This role requires knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet IP, and IEC 61850, as well as hands-on experience with electrical systems, network infrastructure, and automation platforms. 

Key Responsibilities 
<ul>
<li>Commission EPMS solutions, ensuring seamless integration with electrical distribution and monitoring equipment. </li>
<li>Develop and configure communication interfaces using Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet IP, and IEC 61850 protocols to enable data exchange between devices, systems, and enterprise applications. </li>
<li>Metering configuration and testing; Multifunction PMs, Power Quality Meters, Sub-Metering and Branch Circuit Monitoring. Integration of Protective Relays, Breaker Monitoring, UPS, ATS, Generator Monitoring. </li>
<li>Work with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) meters and other industry-standard devices.</li>
<li>Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and IT professionals to gather requirements, define integration strategies, and deliver solutions on schedule. </li>
<li>Troubleshoot communication issues, diagnose network problems, and provide technical support during installation and post-commissioning phases. </li>
<li>Create and maintain project documentation, including system architecture diagrams, network topologies, configuration files, and test procedures. </li>
<li>Conduct training sessions for end-users and operations staff on EPMS functionalities and best practices. </li>
<li>Stay updated on industry standards, emerging technologies, and protocol updates relevant to EPMS and building automation systems. </li>
</ul>

Required Skills and Qualifications 
<ul>
<li>Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).</li>
<li>Solid understanding of three-phase power systems, electrical distribution, and metering principles.</li>
<li>Experience with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) or equivalent intelligent electronic devices (IEDs).</li>
<li>Familiarity with IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3, or other industrial communication protocols.</li>
<li>Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams and control schematics.</li>
<li>Strong verbal and written communication skills. </li>
</ul>

Preferred Qualifications 
<ul>
<li>Experience with leading EPMS software platforms (e.g., Schneider Electric, Siemens, ABB, Eaton). </li>
<li>Experience with Ignition SCADA </li>
<li>Certification in industrial automation, networking, or related fields. </li>
<li>Experience with scripting or programming for device integration (e.g., Python, IEC 61131-3 languages). </li>
<li>Familiarity with additional protocols such as DNP3, OPC UA, or SNMP. </li>
</ul>

Work Environment 
<ul>
<li>Travel required, heavy travel at times. Temporary relocation also possible. </li>
<li>Interaction with engineering, IT, and operations teams in industrial or commercial facilities. </li>
<li>Adherence to safety protocols and electrical standards during site visits and system commissioning. </li>

Electrical Power Monitoring Technician

Job Summary
The Building Electrical Group is responsible for all building electrical systems including lighting, fire protection and low voltage for our design build, industrial projects. We design and build food and beverage production facilities. Our building electrical team is involved with designing the electrical systems, calculating power loads, determining, and selecting equipment sizes, and vetting and selecting suitable vendors, suppliers, and sub-contractors. The professional will have technical responsibility for scoping, performing, and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments. His/her specific responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Designing electrical systems for building power, i.e. normal, emergency, and standby power distribution systems for 208v, 480v, and medium voltage for industrial facilities. </li>
<li>Documenting all necessary calculations for the design such as short circuit, selective coordination, arc flash, generator sizing, steady state and transient voltage drops, load calculations, conductor sizing, raceway fills, etc. </li>
<li>Maintains project document organization </li>
<li>Manage time and meet commitments </li>
<li>Understands Ohms Law, AC/DC, Electric and magnetic fields </li>
<li>Understands power system theory – 3-phase vector math, power factor, symmetrical components </li>
<li>Understands capacitors, inductors, and resonance </li>
<li>Designing lighting for food processing spaces, including lighting calculations for emergency and inspection lighting level needs. Coordinating fixture placement/mounting with other trades. </li>
<li>Designing fire alarm systems per NFPA 72, 101, and local building code. </li>
<li>Code expertise – NEC, NFPA 72/101/, IBC </li>
<li>Specify means and methods </li>

<li>4-7 years of work experience in electrical bid documents and procuring electrical materials and equipment. </li>
<li>4-7 years of work experience in AutoCAD, Revit or other related design programs. </li>
<li>Relevant work experience in a manufacturing or construction setting preferred. </li>
<li>PE tracked desirable. </li>
<li>Travel to customer project sites for fieldwork, review, audit, and meetings, estimated 25%.</li>
