The News &amp; Content unit of the University of Virginia’s <a href="https://communications.virginia.edu/" target="_blank">Office of Communications</a> seeks a Senior Editor to help us tell the dynamic story of UVA and to advance its strategic priorities through content that engages with and grows a multitude of audiences.
This position would be ideal for a seasoned, mature editor at a daily newspaper, magazine or online publication with significant deadline experience and a track record of working with writers to generate compelling stories and improve copy.
The Senior Editor, reporting to the UVA Today Managing Editor, will oversee several direct reports; edit copy for grammar, accuracy, and adherence to Associated Press and local style; and research and write stories as needed. The ideal candidate will be a sharp-eyed, detail-focused journalist who efficiently shepherds daily stories through the editing process while also taking the time to help writers improve their craft. He or she will be attuned to news and current events and be able to quickly identify opportunities to showcase UVA’s students, faculty and staff in the context of the day’s key stories and issues.

Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Director of Finance at Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) has oversight of the financial, risk management and information technology operations of the organization. In collaboration with the Executive Director, the Director of Finance is delegated a high degree of responsibility to recommend and implement fiscal policies and procedures in partnership with university colleagues to ensure that ASI operates appropriately within the financial policies of the California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees and the University, while sustaining sound business practices, and strengthening the financial health of ASI.
The Director of Finance will sit as a non-voting member and serve as an advisor to the ASI Student Board of Directors, which doubles as the Sacramento State Student Government. &nbsp;&nbsp;
The ASI Director of Finance serves as ASI administrator in charge in the absence of the Executive Director.&nbsp;
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Accounting 
<ul>
<li>Oversees the supervision and management of all aspects of the functional areas of the Accounting Services department, including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, cashiering, fixed asset management, internal controls, policy development and implementation, legal, and audit compliance as well as maintenance of the general ledger.</li>
<li>Provides insight and education regarding ASI and CSU Sacramento budget and financial operations to the ASI Student Board of Directors, full-time staff, student-staff, campus partners and the student community at a level of their understanding.</li>
<li>Oversees the preparation of the annual financial statements and 990 for ASI and the Union WELL.</li>
<li>Facilitates implementation of quality standards and priority criteria for service processes.</li>
<li>Ensures a high level of customer satisfaction through assessment, staff training, and resource development. Ensures compliance with state and federal tax laws and reporting requirements.</li>
<li>Ensures compliance with all internal controls and identifies potential improvements to increase efficiency of operations and security of company assets.</li>
<li>Evaluates changes in policies, laws, and available resources for impacts and adjustments to related policies, procedures, and staff responsibilities.</li>
<li>Coordinates plans for testing, training, and implementing new and upgraded financial systems.</li>

Fiscal Services

<li>Serves as an advisor to the ASI Student Board of Directors. Provides guidance and support to all elected ASI student officers, especially the ASI Student Vice President of Finance, in the fulfillment of their responsibilities, and to student club and organization officers on the use of ASI funds.</li>
<li>Organizes, directs and supervises the preparation of ASl's annual budget in accordance with the guidelines provided by the ASI Finance and Budget Committee.</li>
<li>Implements the approved budget, and works with ASI department directors to ensure that operations remain within the scope of the approved budget.</li>
<li>Coordinates with the ASI Student Vice President of Finance in the annual budget review process.</li>

Minimum Qualifications

Todd Communications is an Anchorage- based wholesale book, calendar, map and other print media distributor which has been in business since 1978 when it was founded by its current president Philip (Flip) Todd, a former newspaper reporter in Anchorage, Juneau and Fairbanks. The Juneau sales position involves operating a warehouse with more than 400 titles, many of them specific to Southeast Alaska including children’s, Alaska history, Native lore, cooking, hiking, mountain climbing, fishing, aviation, biography and dozens of other genres including fiction. Many are by Alaska authors and new titles are added regularly as they are published by Todd Communications and more than 200 other publishers including Random House, Simon and Schuster, Harper Collins and dozens of regional and local publishers including Chronicle Books, Epicenter Press and the Milepost. This position is very busy in the spring and summer as it stocks book stores, museums and gift shops for summer tourism and slower after October when sales are more focused on Alaskans reading needs before pre-Christmas sales stimulate business. Owning a full-sized reliable vehicle is mandatory in this position, which pays a ten percent commission on most products with a few products such as calendars paying 20 percent. Commissions are paid twice a month. Book sales in Juneau are delivered to the door of the store and the salesperson is encouraged to develop a good personal relationship with store buyers which we have found greatly facilitates sales. Orders for other communities like Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Craig, Icy Strait Point/Hoonah, Sitka, Skagway and Haines are mailed or sent via Alaska Seaplanes, which several of our customers have accounts with. This salesperson is encouraged to travel by ferry or air to outlying communities to service customers there, develop relationships and find new customers. The company encourages the salesperson to always look for new customers and try to match specialized inventory to specific customer’s interests. There is lots of room for creative selling in this position. A good salesperson can make $40,000 or more per year and a superior salesperson can do better than that if they reach out and show our products to new stores, as well as expanding our sales to more than 50 long-time customers. Although a full-time job during the spring and summer, the salesperson can enjoy a slower pace of work during the winter which is the best time to take a vacation.

The Reporter position gathers news, takes photographs, writes news, including feature and special assignment stories under the direction of the Editor. As well as covering assigned beat, keeps abreast of issues in news beats, changing newsroom technology and maintains a list of story ideas.
Requirements:
 Essential Functions: 
1. Writes accurate assigned stories, enterprise stories, beat stories and special publications as assigned by management.
2. Takes news and feature photos and videos as assigned using camera provided.
3. Maintains story counts requirements, including enterprise assignments and productivity requirements as assigned. 
4. Writes in accordance with directions on grammar, syntax, usage and style as editor directs.
5. Rewrites local news, copy submitted and stringers’ copy to correct errors of omission, fact, style, punctuation, grammar and wordiness.
