JOB SUMMARY:
 
To perform independently, without direct supervision, medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analysis, to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Attend and participate in hospital and laboratory compliance in-services. 
 
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

<li> The skills required for implementing all standard laboratory procedures.</li>

<li> The skills required for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration procedures related to each test performed.</li>
<li> A working knowledge of reagent stability and storage.</li>

<li> Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA, ASMT) or Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT, HEW) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT, ASCP, AMT) or Equivalent certification with educational requirement described in the Federal Register for supervising high complexity testing.</li>
<li> If the Chief Technologist does not qualify as a director, technical supervisor, or is a doctor of medicine, the individual functioning as a general supervisor must meet the following requirements for education and experience:

<li> Have earned a doctoral, masters, or bachelors degree in chemical physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical terminology from an accredited institution and have at least one year laboratory training or experience or both in high complexity testing, or</li>
</ul>

<li>Have earned an associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory from an accredited institution, have at least 2 years laboratory training or experience, or both</li>
<li> Have education and training equivalent to(A) At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include(i) Six semester hours of chemistry;(ii) Six semester hours of biology; and(iii) Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; and</li>
<li> (B) Have laboratory training that includes either of the following: (1) Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS. (This training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed in paragraph (b)(2)(ii)(A) of this section. (2) At least 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.</li>

<li> CPR certification (or eligible for certification within the first 12 months of employment).</li>
<li>Eligible for MLT certification within the first 12 months of employment.</li>

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
<ol>
<li> Performs only those tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individuals education, training, or experience, and technical abilities. Tests performed in the following areas: Hematology/Coagulation (45%), Urinalysis (10%), Chemistry (30%), Blood Bank (5%), Serology (1%), Body Fluids (&lt;1%), Specimen Collection and Handling (2%) and Microbiology (6%). Follow the laboratorys procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.</li>
<li> Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.</li>
<li> Communicates with customer service for any instrument that needs trouble shooting problems and can document findings and schedule service.</li>
<li> Adheres to the laboratorys quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performance.</li>
<li> Demonstrates the capability to identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems immediately or notify the lab manager, lab assistant manager or pathologist.</li>
<li> Documents all corrective action when test systems deviate from the laboratorys established performance specifications.</li>
<li> Immediately recognizes and reports critical test results, realizing any particulars normals related to age. Documents reports and critical values called to on report in Meditech 95%. </li>
<li> Can accurately and efficiently carry out all responsibilities described for the phlebotomist. Phlebotomy is the responsibility of the Medical Laboratory Technician when the regular phlebotomist is unable to obtain blood or if the Phlebotomist is not present or needs assistance.</li>
<li> Reviews annually all laboratory policy and procedure manuals for revisions and updates. Must sign procedure manual annually showing review. </li>
<li> Complies with the hospital-wide and lab specific policies on Infection Control and safety regulations.</li>
<li> Performs any and/or all maintenance on instruments according to the manufacturers schedule and instructions and/or according to laboratory policy.</li>
<li> Ensure the security of the departmental information at the end of each workday to protect confidential information.</li>
<li> Demonstrates a willingness to learn new procedures or process by meeting goals from previous evaluation.</li>
<li> Can demonstrate multitasking by planning, processing and/or prioritizing workload with accuracy with limited overtime.</li>
</ol>

Valor Healthcare is looking for a passionate Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our team at the Veteran Affairs (VA) Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Kosciusko, MS. Position Summary
The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) will be responsible for running lab requests as ordered by the providers. Collaborate with nurses, phlebotomists, and medical staff to collect specimens from patient. Making sure the lab is sanitized and maintained daily to VA protocols. This position requires MLT certification to be fully considered. 
 
Schedule:
This position is 1 day/week on Friday from 8 - 4:30 PM CT. Depending on candidate's needs we may consider other schedules.

Core Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Perform in-house laboratory procedures on appropriate specimens to provide information for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases within the scope of the clinic.</li>
<li>Recognize and respond to critical values as they pertain to patient tests, results, controls, and proficiency samples</li>
<li>Ensure specimens are properly collected and labeled</li>
<li>Enter laboratory requests/results into the VISTA/CPRS system.</li>
<li>Ensure that all lab equipment is maintained and calibrated following manufacturers’ recommendations and clinic policies and procedures</li>
<li>Assure quality controls are run and documented per manufacture and system guidelines.</li>
<li>Comply with the performance measures and clinical guidelines as set forth in the current VHA Performance Measures Technical Manual or by verbal direction and comply with all requirements specified by the VAMC that issues the contract.</li>
<li>Comply with the CDC’s “Universal Precautions” for the prevention and transmission of HIV and other communicable diseases.</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned.</li>
<li>Compliance: Fulfill compliance requirements of the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Joint Commission (JC), Environment of Care (EOC) oversight, lab compliance and other related items.</li>
<li>Responsible for ensuring that contaminated material and trash are maintained in proper containers (red bags)</li>
<li>Clinical Outcomes: Remain focused on achieving excellent clinical outcomes through the specified VA guidelines.</li>
<li>Customer Service: Must provide excellent customer service to each veteran, both in person and over the phone, as well as to fellow colleagues and clinic visitors.</li>
<li>Establish and maintain a warm, welcoming, and professional atmosphere for our colleagues and veterans, ensuring needs and expectations are consistently met.</li>
<li>Collaborates with Clinic leadership to resolve veteran concerns or complaints.</li>
<li>Enrollment Growth: Participate in the clinic’s outreach events to help support the clinic’s enrollment initiatives.</li>

Requirements:
Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent certifying organization.</li>
<li>Completion of a 2-year program for Medical Laboratory Technician.</li>
<li>Minimum of one year of relevant medical practice experience.</li>
<li>Must hold a current and valid BLS certification by the American Heart Association.</li>
<li>Must be a US citizen. </li>
