<li>Ensure exam rooms are prepared for patient visits, including equipment operability, supply inventory, and cleanliness utilizing standard stocking procedures.</li>
<li>Ensure patient care equipment operates in accordance with quality standards.</li>
<li>Provides patient education in support of patient visit and ongoing care.</li>
<li>Assist with orientation and training of new staff members.</li>

 Education/Experience:

<li>MA's may assist Physicians, Physicians Assistants and Nurse Practitioners with patient preparation and treatment, patient chart organization, dissemination of reports; referrals, telephone calls, inventory, ordering and general organization.</li>
<li>MA's may be required to have an authorization by the state to perform needle injections and venipunctures. MA's may be required to demonstrate knowledge and demonstrate competence in vaccine/medication administration prior to and/or ongoing in their regular assignment of duties.</li>
<li>Some states require that the medical assistants who draw blood for lab tests are certified and have passed a practical exam as part of phlebotomy training. </li>
<li>Duties vary according to state law and include taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting during diagnostic examinations.</li>
<li>Medical assistants collect and prepare laboratory specimens or perform basic laboratory tests on the premises, dispose of contaminated supplies, and sterilize medical instruments.</li>

First Choice Health Centers (FCHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with outpatient nursing opportunities in East Hartford, CT! Our Staff LPNs are primarily responsible for managing urgent and emergent patient calls across all disciplines, in addition to performing licensed professional nursing functions to assess the needs and severity of patients requesting healthcare services. Minimum Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities Required:

Standard Job Duties:
<ul>
<li>Provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of the nursing process</li>
<li>Maintains accurate medication inventory listings, oversees the CT Vaccine Program in accordance with Center policies and requirements including monthly inventory, ordering and documentation on each patient in the electronic health record with required elements</li>
<li>Accurately documents in the electronic health record, all assessments, vital signs, specimen collections, interventions, evaluations and responses, teaching, procedures, narratives, referrals, etc. in the proper patient record</li>
<li>Manages prescriptions and medication refills for providers in accordance with the Nurse Performs wound care using appropriate infection control practices</li>
<li>Perform periodic meaningful use documentation including depression screening, sexual history, alcohol and substance abuse history and assessment. Refers appropriate patients to specialty providers in relation to the responses to the noted assessments</li>
<li>Works with medical assistants to ensure safe and effective patient care is rendered in accordance with the medical assistant's scope of practice</li>
<li>Interacts with outside agencies to manage patient care outside the Center</li>
<li>Monitor task list (telephone encounters) in order to respond in a timely manner, follow up on overdue orders and monitor status of critical referrals</li>
<li>Adhere to all patient safety standards and infection control guidelines</li>
<li>Assist care team to assure smooth office operation and delivery of excellent service through teamwork.</li>
