What You’ll Do
As an Ironworker, you’ll be responsible for the safe and accurate assembly and erection of structural steel. You’ll work hands-on with skilled teams to create the framework for buildings, infrastructure, and iconic community structures.
 
Core Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Erect and install structural steel beams, columns, joists, bracing, and decking per blueprints and specs</li>
<li>Rig, guide, and connect steel members using cranes, taglines, and appropriate lifting tools</li>
<li>Weld steel in flat, vertical, and overhead positions per project requirements</li>
<li>Install stairs, rails, platforms, and other miscellaneous metals</li>
<li>Use hand and power tools for cutting, drilling, and bolting</li>
<li>Communicate clearly with crane operators and team members via radio and hand signals</li>
<li>Assist in demolition and shoring when needed</li>
<li>Follow all OSHA and company safety protocols</li>
<li>Work year-round in both indoor and outdoor environments, including at heights</li>

Requirements:
What You Bring
<ul>
<li>3+ years of ironworking or structural steel erection experience preferred – but we will train the right person</li>
<li>Ability to read blueprints and layout steel from drawings</li>
<li>Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use rigging, hand tools, and welding equipment</li>
<li>Welding (AWS) and rigging certifications are a plus – we provide training if not already certified</li>
<li>Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation</li>
<li>Able to work safely at heights and in changing weather conditions</li>
</ul>
Physical Requirements of Job:
<ul>
<li>Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds</li>
<li>Must possess adequate sight, hearing and use of limbs for all aspects of job</li>
<li>Able to work for periods of time while kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing steps as well as the ability to work from a ladder</li>
<li>Must have the physical ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds up to 50% of the day.</li>
<li>Must have the physical ability to carry hand tools and items weighing up to 20 pounds up to 95% of the day.</li>
<li>Must have the physical ability to bend and stoop under obstacles as low as 3 feet up to 50% of the day.</li>
<li>Must have the physical ability to climb over obstacles 2’ high up to up to 50% of the day.</li>

IMI is seeking a full-time Structural Ironworker local to the Athens, GA area.
Essential Functions
<ul>
<li>Interpret structural drawings.</li>
<li>Understand and perform crane Signaling procedures.</li>
<li>Align and bolt structural steel members in position for permanent&nbsp;riveting, bolting, or welding into place per structural drawings.</li>
<li>Understand and perform proper rigging techniques.</li>
<li>Direct cranes to move structural steel components and other materials onto and around the construction site.</li>
<li>Connect steel columns, beams, and girders with drift pins to align the holes in the steel with the framework holes.</li>
<li>Drill and/or ream holes into steel for bolting.</li>
<li>Number steel according to assembly instructions.</li>
<li>Unload and safely stack steel on cribbing.</li>
<li>Position steel with connecting bars and spud wrenches.</li>
<li>Use plumb bobs, levels, and laser equipment to check alignment and elevations.</li>
<li>Troubleshoot structures to identify and initiate repair of welding defects.</li>
<li>Identify and repair damaged coatings during installation (painted and galvanized).</li>
</ul>
Education and Experience
<ul>
<li>1 - 3 years' experience</li>
<li>Must be able to pass an all position SMAW exam</li>
<li>Power generating experience preferred</li>
<li>NCCER certification or completion of a related program through an accredited technical school.</li>
