Role Responsibilities:
Provide executive support to the Vice President and General Counsel and the Associate General Counsel on matters relating to the chief obligations and mandates of the Office of Legal Counsel.&nbsp;Such duties include:&nbsp;

Benefits of employment with the Superior Court, County of Madera include 13 paid holidays and 1 floating holiday per year, 1 sick leave day per month (unlimited accrual); Appointed to a permanent position shall be granted 5 days credit for vacation following the completion of 6 calendar months of continuous paid full-time service and following the completion of 12 calendar months of continuous paid full-time service in a permanent position will be credited 5 additional vacation days, vacation accrual increasing thereafter with years of service (50 days max accrual); Membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) pursuant to the provisions of Californias 2013 Pension Reform Act (Act) and CalPERS Regulations. For those individuals with current or prior CalPERS membership status or defined as a classic member, will be eligible for an enhanced 2.7% @ 55 retirement formula; employee contributes 8%. Individuals with no current or prior CalPERS membership status and who are defined as new members or new employees under the Act, will be eligible for the 2% @ 62 retirement benefit formula; employee contributes 7.75%. Superior Court participates in the CalPERS Health Benefit Program, and for certain selected health plans, the Superior Court pays 100% of the health insurance premium for employee and 50% for either two-party or family coverage.
EXAMINATION PROCESS:
A qualifications appraisal for the purpose of appraising the candidates education, experience, and personal qualifications will be scheduled for those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications, and may be administered either by a written examination, oral interview, evaluation of education and experience, or any combination of qualifications appraisal determined by the Superior Court Human Resources Division to be appropriate. The Human Resources Division may limit the number of qualified applicants eligible to participate in the examination process. The Superior Court Human Resources Division will make reasonable accommodations in the examination process for disabled applicants. BENEFITS: The Superior Court offers an excellent benefit package, summarized as follows:

The Court currently fully pays for medical coverage for employee and dependents when selecting Kaiser. In addition, the Court fully covers the premium for dental and vision insurance.</li>
<li>Holidays and Leave Benefits: Employees in these positions will be entitled to 14 paid holidays, 16 days of vacation earned during the first year of service, 4 days of personal leave, a day off on their birthday, and sick leave accrued at the rate of 100 hours per year.</li>
<li>Longevity Pay: After completing 2,611 days of continuous service, the Court provides $50 per pay period as a longevity payment.</li>
<li>Deferred compensation plans: Employees will have access to deferred compensation plans.</li>
<li>Realtime/CART Court Reporting Certification Differential</li>
<li>Court Reporters who hold a state or national Realtime certification (CRR, CRP, CCRR, CRG, or FCRR) shall receive a 10% pay differential.</li>
<li>Court Reporters who have successfully completed the Court administered Realtime certification test shall receive a 5% pay differential.</li>

COURT REPORTERS are responsible for making verbatim official records of court proceedings in machine shorthand and providing read back of all or portions of the record upon request.
Under direction, this specialized classification steno graphically records and maintains an official record of court proceedings, reads notes as requested, prepares transcripts, and performs other related duties as required.
TYPICAL TASKS/REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
<ul>
<li>Attends court sessions as assigned and makes verbatim stenographic records of the proceedings, often of a technical nature and at a high rate of speed;</li>
<li>Provides immediate read back of all or portions of the record upon request;</li>
<li>Prepares printed or magnetic media transcripts of court proceedings;</li>
<li>Reviews, certifies, and files printed transcripts of court proceedings and provides daily transcripts as needed;</li>
<li>Qualified incumbents may process court information/proceedings by use of realtime technology;</li>
<li>Incumbents provide, at own expense, all necessary equipment and materials to produce the verbatim record, pursuant to California Rules of Court, Rule 810;</li>

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS/TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Certification by the California Department of Consumer Affairs Certified Shorthand Reporters Board is required:
<ul>
<li>Realtime reporting is highly desirable. In order to receive the differential, incumbents must be Realtime-certified by either the National Court Reporters Association, or the Deposition Reporters Association, or have successfully passed a Realtime test administered by the Court.</li>
<li>Incumbents provide and maintain the necessary equipment for the transcription of court proceedings.</li>
</ul>
Employees will be eligible for reimbursements up to $2000 from the Court for limited equipment. A California Driver's license may be required. Employees in this classification may be required to use their own vehicle to travel between facilities.
Knowledge Of:
<ul>
<li>Legal terminology; basic medical and other specialized and technical terminology required for court proceedings and protocol;</li>
<li>English usage, grammar, punctuation, and spelling; transcript production procedures and practices; office procedures and practices;</li>

Working Conditions: The work environment is generally clean, inside buildings, with limited exposure to dust, fumes, odors, and noise.
