About Delaware Guidance Services
Delaware Guidance Services for Children and Youth, Inc. (DGS) is the largest provider of outpatient behavioral health services to children and families in Delaware. We operate offices in Wilmington, Newark, Dover, Lewes, and Seaford, and we are the only statewide not-for-profit outpatient behavioral health organization for children and adolescents accredited by JCAHO. In 2020, we were honored as a Compassionate Champion for our dedication to serving youth and families using a trauma-informed approach. 

Through DGS, clients and families have access to outpatient counseling, group therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, and school-based services. Our community-based service lines serve youth and families who require a more intense therapeutic protocol. DGS’ 24-hour statewide Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS) dispatches skilled crisis intervention clinicians to provide immediate care to children experiencing behavioral health crises. Therapeutic options are available for a wide range of diagnoses including depression, anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders, traumatic stress-related disorders, and suicidal ideation. In 2021, DGS clinicians provided over 54,000 direct care hours to children, youth, and families in Delaware. Over 93% of clients report improvement in their level of functioning following treatment, and therapeutic benefits derived from trauma-informed care extend to clients’ siblings, caregivers, classmates, and peers. 

Our client population is racially and ethnically diverse; 80% of DGS clients are Medicaid recipients and 90% have household incomes under $30,000. Many of our clients present with significant treatment challenges including learning impacts due to missed school and negative economic impact due to parental missed work. We provide care to anyone in need, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay for care. DGS also provides services specifically tailored to meet the unique behavioral health care needs of child welfare-involved families and foster youth

Summary/objective
The Outpatient Therapist is responsible for providing clinical behavioral health services at a designated DGS location. 
 
Essential Functions: 
 
 Clinical

<li>Maintains an assigned caseload in compliance with agency standards related to direct clinical care</li>

<li>Participates in interagency committees, community task forces, and advocacy special interest groups</li>

Summary/objective
Under the supervision of the Crisis Coordinator, the CARES Clinician will provide screening and assessment and intensive therapeutic intervention services to youth and families experiencing high intensity psychological and emotional problems (ie. aggressive and defiant behavior due to problems with emotion regulation, suicidal/homicidal ideation, plans, or attempts, family conflicts, etc.) while maintaining safety and implementing therapeutic treatment plans in a community-based setting. The incumbent is responsible for providing intensive, community-based therapeutic intervention as a bridge to other intensive services for approximately 90 days. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for therapeutic documentation of cases from intake through discharge.
 
Essential functions:
Intensive Therapeutic Intervention

<li>Maintain professional, trauma-informed, and empathetic interactions during communications with families and all stakeholders</li>
<li>Use critical thinking and risk management skills when assessing and developing treatment goals that allows for stabilization and effective transition to alternative services at discharge</li>

Therapists in this program will provide mental and behavioral health support to clients and their families, assisting them in being able to step-down to a less intense level of care.

Position Summary: 
A paraprofessional support position providing basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding enrolled WIC participants.
 
Job Responsibilities:
• Attends breastfeeding training classes to become a peer counselor.
• Receives a caseload of WIC mothers and makes routine periodic contacts with all mothers assigned as outlined by WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator.
• Gives basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including telling them about the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and getting a good start with breastfeeding. She also helps mothers prevent and handle common breastfeeding concerns.
• Counsels WIC prenatal and breastfeeding mothers in the WIC clinic, by telephone, and/or hospital visits at scheduled intervals determined by the WIC Program. Can make these contacts outside the normal WIC office hours as needed.
• Responds to WIC mothers who contact her as soon as possible, within 24 hours at most, utilizing the cell phone or office phone provided by the employer.
• Respects each mother by keeping her information strictly confidential.
• Keeps accurate records of all contacts made with WIC mothers.
• Adheres to all organizational policies and procedures relative to exposure control.
• Refers non scope-of-practice inquiries to:
o WIC Nutritionist or Breastfeeding Coordinator
o Lactation consultant
o Healthcare providers
o Community agencies and programs
• Attends and assists with prenatal classes, facilitated group discussions, hospital visits, and breastfeeding support groups as offered.
• Attends monthly staff meetings and breastfeeding conferences and workshops as appropriate.

• Reads assigned books and materials on breastfeeding that are provided by Breastfeeding Coordinator.
• May assist WIC staff in promoting breastfeeding peer counseling through special projects and duties as assigned.
• May deliver and educate on breast pumps, after assessment by Breastfeeding Coordinator, a Qualified Nutritionist or Competent Professional Authority and provide education and follow-up under the guidance of the Breastfeeding Coordinator.
• Complete mandatory trainings and read mandatory policies as required by Oak Orchard Health.
• May participate in outreach and public health detailing as assigned.
• Complies with all New York State WIC Program and Oak Orchard Health policies.
• Any other reasonable requests from management.
Requirements:

Skills/Qualifications:
· Has breastfed at least one baby (does not have to be currently breastfeeding) and within the target WIC population.
· Is enthusiastic about breastfeeding and wants to help other mothers enjoy a positive experience.
· Can work between 10-15 hours per week based on caseload needs. This is a per diem position and requires flexibility in schedule. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
· Must be available to work in office and work from home available as determined by supervisor.
· Has reliable transportation. Car and valid Driver's license required. Must maintain vehicle insurance. Car must be registered in New York State and maintain minimum requirement, by law, to have liability insurance.
· Has good organizational skills, enabling her to manage her assigned caseload, keep track of her scheduled clinic hours, meetings, and trainings, and meet deadlines.
· Current or previous WIC participants are preferred.
