Physical Requirements: 
This employee must be able to assist patients onto the tabletop and into positioning per ordered X-rays/ultrasounds. Qualifications: 
National Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), and Licensed by the State.
Basic Function: 
Produce all Radiological images and oversee the digital transfer to specified Radiologist for interpretation.
Duties and Responsibilities:

<li>Meet and greet patients and explain the Radiologic/ultrasound procedure</li>
<li>Ability to position each patient per ordered exam</li>
<li>Knowledge of when to use protective devices such as lead aprons and shields to meet Radiation Safety Standard</li>
<li>Competency to set the x-ray tube/ultrasound probe to the proper distance and angle for the examination being performed</li>
<li>Produce the best diagnostic images that are reproducible using the computer program for the department</li>
<li>Generate findings report for interpretation</li>
<li>Oversee and manage the transfer and archiving of digital images/reports</li>
<li>Maintain all patient records according to HIPPA standards</li>
<li>Wear monitoring dosimeter at all times while performing Radiologic Exams</li>
<li>Check and Maintain equipment within Radiology/Ultrasound Departments</li>
<li>Must have the aptitude to set controls using ALARA and ARDMS standards</li>

SUMMARY
A Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) performs diagnostic and special procedure ultrasonography in accordance with established policies and procedures. Typically reports to a radiology or ultrasound coordinator.
Incumbents hired as general sonographers in regular status are required to receive certification as a Registered Vascular Sonographer within one year from the date of hire. If incumbents fail the test twice within this first year, they will be terminated but able to apply for open available positions within the organization.
Per diem employees are encouraged but not required to obtain the certification.
 
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g. GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit required. Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonographic program and ARDMS certified. CEU documentation required for certification must be provided. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.
 
EXPERIENCE
Two years’ ultrasound experience.
 
SKILLS and ABILITIES
Able to independently perform tests. Good interpersonal, organizational and decision-making skills. Ability to take initiative and work independently.
· Communication: Ability to effectively interact with a patient who may be under physical or emotional distress. Discuss with appropriate staff to insure patient is informed of any inconvenience.
