JOB PURPOSE: The Psychiatric ARNP provides Psychiatric Assessments and ongoing care to consumers for Peninsula Behavioral Health (PBH). The ARNP completes Initial Psychiatric Evaluations, Medication Management, and Consultation services within scope of practice.
As part of the Trueblood settlement, the state is funding enhanced engagement to connect individuals detained in city and county jails with services. This position will provide medication management to individuals who are involved in the criminal court system that have been ordered to undergo a competency evaluation, restoration, or participate in diversion services. This individual will provide initial psychiatric evaluations and ongoing care for this population.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
<ul>
<li>Conducts and completes Initial Psychiatric Evaluations including diagnostic formulation, clinical risk assessment, and treatment recommendations.</li>
<li>Prescribes and renews medications of assigned clients. Regularly monitors side effects of prescribed medications. Provides consumers with information necessary to make informed consents. Provides back-up support to other members of the Medical Team.</li>
<li>Orders and monitors laboratory studies, metabolic parameters, and other tests needed to safely monitor consumers' ongoing psychiatric health.</li>
<li>Provides psychiatric consultation to those outside agencies with which PBH contracts (such as OMC, CCCF, and nursing homes) within scope of practice.</li>
<li>Consults on request from Primary Care Providers and other specialists for management of psychiatric issues for clients enrolled with PBH but not involved in ongoing medication management.</li>
<li>Coordinates with consumers' Pharmacies, Caregivers, Case Managers, and Therapists for continuity of care. Works in a collegial manner with all clinical staff and departmental supervisors.</li>
<li>Routinely participates in the Performance Improvement process to address and resolve issues impacting quality.</li>
</ul>
 
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

We are hiring a compassionate and skilled Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our outpatient team as a W2 employee providing high-quality mental health care to adults in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary clinic setting.

What your day might look like:
<ul>
<li>Prescribes, directs, or administers psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorder;</li>
<li>Orders, analyzes and evaluates patient data or test findings to diagnose nature or extent of mental disorder;</li>
<li>Promotes positive treatment outcomes and client safety by providing tele-health and/or in- person services as directed by clinic leadership and/or BHSN emergency response plan;</li>
<li>Provides tele-health or in-person services across program locations, including both the Glens Falls and Plattsburgh regions;]</li>
<li>Completes training and provides treatment using Medication Assisted Therapies (MAT) as part of an evidence-based integrated approach to delivering behavioral healthcare services;</li>
<li>Collaborates with an integrated team to discuss treatment plans and progress;</li>
<li>Performs psychiatric assessments and evaluations;</li>
<li>Designs, executes or approves individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments;</li>
<li>Prescribes and monitor medications and other treatments;</li>
<li>Evaluates recipient progress and makes referrals as needed;</li>
<li>Gathers and maintain patient information and records;</li>
<li>Documents all services within twenty-four hours of the date of a client’s visit and in accordance with state/federal guidelines and BHSN policies and procedure;</li>
<li>Participates in care planning and coordination meetings to facilitate care process as requested. As assigned, sees individuals who are an immediate crisis to curtail emergency visits and/or inpatient admissions;</li>
<li>Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities;</li>
<li>Maintains client confidentiality and confidential health information;</li>
<li>Participates in meetings as scheduled;</li>
<li>Meets or exceeds the then current individual billable units of service requirement;</li>
<li>Additional duties as assigned. </li>
</ul>
Your skills and qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Current and valid licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner / PMHNP or transferable license to NYS</li>
<li>Previous experience providing psychotherapy to adults and/or children preferred</li>
<li>Previous training in and experience with providing Medication Assisted Therapies (MAT) preferred</li>
<li>Licensed to practice in state of practice</li>
<li>Current DEA registration</li>
<li>Valid NYS drivers license with driving record acceptable to BHSN insurance carrier and reliable transportation required for required travel to other agency locations in Upstate NY region</li>
<li>Excellent knowledge and familiarity with current DSM criteria</li>
<li>Familiar with crisis assessment tools and techniques</li>
<li>Strong working knowledge of general psychiatric principles and practices</li>
<li>Excellent interpersonal and communication skills</li>
<li>Extensive knowledge with PC applications and electronic medical records strongly preferred.</li>
