The Oakland Housing Authority’s Police Officers’ authority comes from Section 830.31(d) of the California Penal Code. The Department is currently POST certified, and one of twenty nationally accredited agencies in California through CALEA. Under general supervision, officers patrol authority owned property, perform all the duties of a police officer and performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

SELECTION
All applications will be carefully reviewed. The selection process will include a physical ability test, an oral interview and a personal history review. Successful applicants will be placed on a list of qualifiers. Based on position on the list, applicants will complete a polygraph or Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) Examination and intensive background investigation. Successful candidates will be scheduled for an interview with the Department Director. Those passing will be given a conditional job offer and scheduled for a medical and psychological examination. The entire process should be completed within 90 days. Note: applicants currently enrolled in police academies may substitute the basic academy entry-level examination and successful completion of the academy’s physical ability program for the written &amp; physical ability portions. 
The physical ability performance test is mandatory and only given to those applicants who are applying for the position of police officer. The test has been developed by POST as a standard to measure physical characteristics of strength, endurance, and the agility necessary to perform job-related functions of a police officer. The applicant must pass all parts of the test within the allotted time period. The test shall be scored as pass or fail.
 1. Elements of the physical ability performance test are:

<li>Obstacle Course/Agility Run: Run a 99-yard obstacle course consisting of several sharp turns, a number of curb-height obstacles, and a 34-inch-high obstacle that must be vaulted.</li>
<li>Body Drag: Life and drag a 165-pound lifelike dummy 32 feet.</li>
<li>Solid Fence Climb: Run 5 yards to a 6-foot solid fence, climb over fence, and continue running another 25 yards.</li>

Cayuga Nation is a Sovereign Native American Nation enjoying a government-to-government relationship with the United States, as guaranteed by treaty.  EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED. Additional course work in law enforcement, criminal justice, sociology or related field, or military duty in a closely related specialty or Associates degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or related field preferred. Certified in New Hampshire by Police Standards and Training as Police Officer upon appointment or within six months of appointment. Valid motor vehicle operator’s license. Completion of college courses, military experience, or significant work experience involving interaction with the public and the development of social/people skills is preferred.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
The hiring process for this position will consist of a review of the applications and resumes, a written test, in person interview, a thorough background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological screening, a medical examination with drug screening and a physical fitness test. The hiring process is expected to take 1-3 months. Job Description VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT General Investigations Detective (DCJS L.E. certified) – Part Time Starting Salary: $30-40/ hourly (Negotiable with qualifications and experience) Background: The Fredericksburg Police department is accepting applications for the position of General Investigations Detective. Detectives are responsible for the prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution of criminal violations related to crimes against persons and property in the City of Fredericksburg. Detectives may be assigned to investigate any type of crime, but assignments are typically made based upon the detective's training and experience. Detectives may be required to specialize in particular areas including, but not limited to: sex offenses, domestic violence, fraud, property crimes, major felonies and forensics. Part-time Detectives at the Fredericksburg Police Department work a flexible schedule approved by the Division Commander.&nbsp; This position may also require work outside the normal schedule to complete the mission.&nbsp; This part-time position requires a total of 24 hours of work commitment per week, for a total of 48 hours in a two-week work cycle. Salary will be commensurate with training and experience. Minimum requirements include:

<li>Current Virginia DCJS Certified officer with 3 years’ experience in law enforcement.</li>
<li>Have previously documented experience as a detective, investigator, agent, or other field of specialized criminal investigatory activities</li>

<li>No current or previous revocations of suspension of license within previous 60 months due to a moving violation</li>
<li>Undergo a background investigation including fingerprint-based criminal history records inquiries to both the CCRE and FBI</li>

Duties: All detectives assigned to the General Investigations section are responsible for the following:
<ul>
<li>Upon being hired, completing a modified Field Training &amp; Evaluation Program </li>
<li>Producing well-documented reports, supplements, and investigations</li>
<li>Testifying in Court and Grand Jury proceedings</li>
<li>Assisting patrol officers with certain cases</li>
<li>Maintaining liaison with other agencies and detectives</li>
<li>Sharing information with other detectives and agencies regarding certain investigations</li>
<li>Working irregular hours upon short notice and participating in call-outs for major incidents</li>
<li>Carrying a department issued cell phone and subject to be called back to work when needed</li>
<li>Willing to work in an undercover capacity as required</li>
<li>Working closely with victim advocates, Commonwealth Attorneys, Social Services, and other service providers</li>
<li>Any other duties requested by a supervisor or the Detective Division Commander</li>
</ul>

Academy Training
Our Academy usually runs from 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday. The Academy is not residentially based; at the end of the workday, recruits go to their own homes - not a barracks or dormitory. The tone of our Academy endeavors to treat all of our recruits as continuing adult learners. Those ultimately hired will receive extensive training in such areas as law, crisis intervention, firearms, and use of community resources. This initial training lasts six months, and is one of the most comprehensive in the country. It is conducted in Madison under the direct supervision of the Madison Police Department Training Staff.
It is not unusual for our newly-hired officers to have widely varying technical and non-technical skills. Our goal is to provide a base of training which builds on each individual's unique body of knowledge and expertise. As a recruit in training,&nbsp;full salary and benefits&nbsp;apply.
Field Training
Upon completion of the academy, new officers will be assigned to a 4 month field training program with an experienced officer, working the 6/3 patrol workweek, working various shifts prior to a solo patrol assignment.
