Requirements:
<ul>
<li>Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) – required </li>
<li>2 – 3 years of progressive on-the-job experience in INPATIENT or ACUTE CARE settings – required </li>
<li>Associate’s Degree – required </li>
<li>Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM diagnostic and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes, DRG assignment, and inpatient coding guidelines. – required </li>
<li>Proficiency in using coding software, including Computer Assisted Coding (CAC), encoders, and reference materials for accurate code assignment. – required </li>
</ul>
Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Review inpatient clinical documentation and assign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and DRGs for compliance and reimbursement.</li>
<li>Code complex cases, including interventional radiology, cardiovascular surgeries, major transplants, and level 1 trauma.</li>
<li>Ensure adherence to coding policies, ethical standards, and revenue cycle KPIs while resolving coding-related issues.</li>
<li>Collaborate with clinical documentation specialists, physicians, and other departments to clarify documentation and optimize coding accuracy.</li>

Must have experience coding craniotomies and spine surgeries.
- Coding and abstracting procedural (CPT) and diagnosis codes (ICD-10) for physician services
- Reviewing physician documentation in the electronic medical record for completeness and accuracy to ensure proper code assignment
- Providing physician feedback of discrepancies/trends; educate physicians on proper documentation techniques and improvement opportunities
- Collaborates with physicians to ensure timely completion of attestations in the medical records
- Input data from encounters in the practice management system; assumes full responsibility for the charge capture, coding, and charge entry of all assigned surgical cases into the practice management system.
- Resolving edits and denials

- Monitor medical records to ensure documentation complies with hospital and payer policies and regulations

Conduct the necessary audits of medical record to verify the physicians have appropriately documented the diagnoses then code these diagnoses in ICD-10 for Medicare Risk
Adjustments/Medicare Advantage. Evaluate medical information (Outpatient/Inpatient) documentation from a clinical standpoint for evidence of the possibility of additional medical conditions that may not have been documented in the past, and ensure accurate coding of the encounter data and recommend processes for accurate coding practices. This process involves a very strong understanding of medical coding.
