SUMMARY OF POSITION The Special Police Officer Chief leads HolBrocks Special Police Department and serves as the organizations Safety Officer, responsible for department oversight, emergency preparedness, safety inspections, and compliance with CARF accreditation standards. Seasonal Special Police Officer

Job Description
These volunteer officers relieve regular line officers from performing auxiliary tasks and other functions that deplete the number of regular officers on the street.
The Auxiliary unit is used in a variety of functions ranging from crowd and traffic control to assisting regular officers search a crime scene for evidence. The unit is used also for disasters (i.e., to secure areas and direct traffic because of downed power lines, flood areas and many other disaster situations).
Training:
Ferndale Police Auxiliary members receive a great deal of training, both ongoing as well as formal training. Ongoing training is done locally at the department or around the station (if the auxiliary is practicing traffic direction). The Auxiliary Coordinator directs all training.
Formal training is conducted at Oakland Community College, Oakland Police Academy. The Auxiliary receives 120 hours of classroom and range time, covering 14 topics in the classroom. Topics include:

Uniforms:
In Ferndale, the department has always provided our auxiliary members with shirts, pants, hats, badges, coats, bullet resistant vests and name badges.
Auxiliary members are also required to purchase a department-approved firearm, all leather gear (belts, holsters, belt keepers and cuff case). Other equipment includes flashlights, whistles, rain hat covers, radio holsters, pepper spray case and other incidentals. This equipment cost can exceed $1,500.
The Auxiliary unit is a group of dedicated volunteers striving for the betterment and safety of the City of Ferndale and its residents.

About the Position
Police Officer Trainees are those individuals who have not completed a Basic Police Academy. The City of Lakeport will pay those individuals hired as Police Officer Trainees while they attend the Basic Police Academy, as well as, pay the cost of the Academy. Upon graduation, they are sworn in and appointed to Police Officer and are assigned to the Field Training Program.
 
Selection Process
All City applications reviewed will be reviewed for accuracy, completeness and job-related qualifications. A limited number of the most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in an oral interview. Physical agility and written testing may be required. Finalists then must successfully pass a thorough background investigation, medical, polygraph, and psychological examinations. Fingerprints are required. Appointment to the position is contingent upon successfully passing all examinations. Applicants who successfully complete the examination process will be placed on an eligibility list.

Compensation and Employee Benefits

<li>Public Employees Retirement System: The City provides the PERS retirement program at the following formulas: 2.7%@57 for new members and 3%@55 for classic members. The City does not participate in Social Security. </li>

Who We Are Seeking: Our Tribal Police Department has multiple Inter-Tribal Governmental agreements with several Tribes in the State of Alaska and is looking to fill up to six (6) TPO positions. We are seeking motivated professionals, preferably with Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), Alaska Police Standards Council Academy training, and at least one year of patrol experience; preferably in rural Alaskan communities, and/or a background in military policing. As a TPO, you will be part of a team dedicated to enforcing Tribal and federal laws. TPOs respond to a range of service calls; assisting elders, vulnerable individuals, and investigating crimes. They are primarily responsible for preventing crime and actively participating in community safety and crime prevention programs, upholding Tribal and federal laws, and protecting the public through patrolling assigned areas and completing tasks as assigned by their supervisor.
Additional Responsibilities: Follow standard operating procedures to observe and respond to various situations and/or emergencies; complete case work and produce internal reports; foster public relationships and correspond with emergency services, community groups and individuals; attend and provide evidence in court upon request; and participate in Tribal meetings, trainings, and events.

The Department: The Riverdale Park Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that works with our community partners as we deliver quality service to address the needs of our rapidly growing community. The Department's strong leadership team actively promotes our core values of service, honor, integrity, and professionalism. Three senior members, including the Chief, are graduates of the FBI National Academy. The Department is currently allocated for 24.5 police officers and eight civilian employees. The Patrol Division is responsible for safeguarding the lives and property of the people we serve, providing 24-hour police patrol and police dispatch services. The Criminal Investigation Division is responsible for investigating reported crimes against persons and property, conducting administrative investigations of reported misconduct, and completing employee background investigations.
 
The Department is accountable and transparent, keeping our community informed about the Department's activities through the Town's Status and Information Reports. The Department also posts policies, procedures, and protocols on the Town's webpage. To further these goals, the Chief implemented a Chief's Community Advisory Committee to promote open, honest, and direct communication between the Riverdale Park community and its Police Department.
 
The Position: This is a full-time, entry-level position within the Police Department. The typical responsibilities of a police officer include: responding to calls, maintaining order in an assigned patrol area, enforcing criminal and traffic laws mandated by the State and local laws and ordinances; report writing, courtroom presentation of cases, and providing excellent service to the residents of the Town of Riverdale Park.
