Implements medical plan through administering medications in accordance with physician's orders. • Intervenes by administering medications according to proper techniques and procedures, including IV therapy, and all other approved routes of administration. • Utilizes pharmacology knowledge and available resources to include drug reaction and overdose information in administering medications. • Implements medical plans through obtaining diagnostic tests in accordance with physician's orders. Intervene by obtaining body fluid specimens and performing EKG's using proper techniques and procedures. • Assists the Physician or Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner in medical or minor surgical procedures as necessary and/or requested to meet individual needs of patients. • Consults as necessary and communicate information with other nurses, Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, Correctional Officers, etc. • Develops and maintains professional relationships with staff, patients, visitors, and medical and correctional personnel. • Accepts staffing assignments and performs other related duties as required or assigned by the Director of Nursing/Health Services Administrator. • Develops and maintains an awareness of needed improvements in patient care, procedures, equipment and supplies and make recommendations to supervisors • As requested, assists in the presentation of in-service education. • Promotes quality assurance standards by participating in the quality of chart audits. • Maintains the confidentiality of inmate records. • Makes suggestions for improving work conditions to the Director of Nursing and Health Services Administrator. LICENSING: Current, unrestricted Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License CERTIFICATION: Current CPR Certification EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Associate's Degree required; Bachelors' Degree preferred.
