The Evening Sleep Laboratory Assistant is responsible for a variety of tasks which include patient testing preparation for polysomnography, data collection initiation, records management, and all other tasks within the scope of practices related to patient care. This position reports directly to the staff or head technician. This position works in our Grandview, OH area sleep center Monday and Tuesdays 6:30p-11p.
Purpose
This policy explains the job responsibilities and tasks of the Evening Sleep Laboratory Assistant. It will provide guidelines for training and competency assurance for Sleep Laboratory Assistants employed by SleepCare.
Procedures
<ol>
<li>Responsible for records management, i.e. database updating.</li>
<li>Greet patients. Help make them comfortable.</li>
<li>Understand and utilize sleep system functions including:
<ol>
<li>Downloads records from hard drive to storage media and server</li>
<li>Utilizes utility for record/data management.</li>
<li>Understands data base software which is set up to monitor patients, storage disk numbers, and other pertinent information.</li>
</ol>
</li>
<li>Nocturnal Polysomnography (NPSG) preparation:
<ol>
<li>Review Patient Request Form orders and protocols for study.</li>
<li>Review pertinent information in patient chart.</li>
<li>Communicate with the ordering physician to clarify unclear orders and update physicians (per protocol) of patient status.</li>
<li>Administer appropriate questionnaires to patients, give tours, and brief explanation of procedures for the evening.</li>
<li>Enter all needed information into sleep systems</li>
<li>Calibrate sleep systems and ancillary equipment (oximeters, CPAP, etc.) as well as troubleshooting any problem areas during calibrations. </li>
<li>Interview patient to assess current medications, recent caffeine or alcohol ingestion, current sleep pattern, need for treatment intervention during testing or need to discontinue medication for testing purposes.</li>
<li>Measure and apply EEG electrodes according to the International 10-20 system. Ensure all impedances are below 10 Kolms.</li>
<li>Apply other electrodes as specified.</li>
<li>Place and securely attach recording devices to measure airflow, respiratory effort, and oximetry.</li>
<li>Perform physiological calibrations and make appropriate equipment adjustments.</li>
<li>Recognize equipment malfunctions and troubleshoot as necessary.</li>
<li>Recognize physiological vs. mechanical artifact and troubleshoot each with as little disruption to the test as possible.</li>
<li>Document all activities.</li>
</ol>

<li> Patient and equipment safety:
<ol>
<li>Clean and disinfect equipment according to protocol.</li>
<li>Recognize emergency situations related to EKG, cataplexy, seizure, respiratory events, etc.</li>
<li>Comply with Universal Infection Control Procedures.</li>
<li>Ensure safety and welfare of all patients, including pediatric, psychiatric, and patients with special needs.</li>
<li>Comply fully with HIPAA</li>

<li> Exhibits good interpersonal skills:

<li>Equipment knowledge including sleep systems as well as basic computer knowledge.</li>
<li> Educational requirements include a High School Diploma with at least 2 years college coursework in science, psychology, heathcare, or related field preferred.</li>

Job Description 
The Echocardiographer IHR&nbsp;reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The registered echocardiography technician performs inpatient and outpatient echocardiography procedures as ordered by a physician. These echo procedures include: 2-D, M-Mode echocardiography and pulsed, continuous wave, color and tissue doppler procedures on the adult patient population. Assists with stress echocardiography and transesophageal echo procedures. In addition, assists with other clinical tests such as EKG and exercise stress testing as requested. All functions of this role shall be performed within the guidelines of the department and hospital policies. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

Patient Care/Clinical Duties

Two West is a twenty-eight-bed unit specializing in the rehabilitation of neuromuscular conditions as well as a wide variety of high acuity patients including, but not limited to transplant, LVAD, wound/burn care and oncology patients. Our rehabilitation team is comprised of physicians, resident physicians, nurses, therapists and nursing assistants working together to provide exceptional care for this acute population of adults eighteen and older. Patient Care/Clinical Duties:
<ul>
<li>Collects and reports pertinent physiological, psychological, and functional data based on patient plan of care or patient need.</li>
<li>Assists and instructs patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living, including showering, promoting maximal independence and skill practice.</li>
<li>Performs preventive skin care program as directed by RN and report any changes in skin integrity immediately to the RN.</li>
<li>Assists patients with bladder and bowel training&nbsp; programs including post void residuals and spot bladder scans. Perform straight catheterization&nbsp; for select patient populations under direction of RN and provide care for indwelling and external catheters and ostomies.</li>
<li>Accurately obtains and documents patients' vital signs/pulse oximetry and communicates any reportable values, symptoms or signs of distress&nbsp; to the RN.</li>
<li>Assists patients with transfers and mobility activities utilizing appropriate techniques, precautions and assistive devices. Practice therapy transfers and ambulation with patients within safe patient handling guidelines as delegated by the RN.</li>
<li>Assists patient with application of assistive devices and prosthetics/orthoses according to individual patient plan of care.</li>
<li>Assists patients with completing menus. Passes patient meal trays and HS snacks, verifying any modified diet is as ordered. Accurately calculates and documents calorie count and carbohydrates, intake and output as ordered.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Assist patient with 1:1 feeds as ordered. For patients with dysphagia, cue patient to use ordered swallowing strategies, under the direction of the RN.</li>

Qualifications 
Required:
<ul>
<li>High School or equivalent (GED) High School degree, or G.E.D equivalent, is required.</li>
<li>Current Nursing Assistant certification (C.N.A.) is required or current enrollment in an RN Nursing Program, with the successful completion of two clinical rotations.</li>
<li>Maintains current CPR certification.</li>
<li>Basic math skills are required.</li>
<li>Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people and provide highest level of customer service.</li>
<li>Understanding and support of Northwestern Medicine’s Mission and Values.</li>
<li>Flexibility and ability to manage work in a changing environment.</li>
</ul>
Preferred:
<ul>
<li>2-5 years work experience is preferred in a rehabilitation hospital, acute care hospital or skilled nursing facility.</li>

JOB SUMMARY: Functions as a member of the healthcare team to deliver nursing care to patients under supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The Patient Care Technician assists in caring for patients by answering call lights, bathing, feeding, toileting, transporting, monitoring vital signs and provides for the basic needs of the patient. The Technician will also change linens and maintain patient rooms in an orderly fashion.

· Duties include but are not limited to: attending to patient care needs: answering call lights, bathing, toileting, turning, passing ice water; obtaining and correctly labeling venous puncture specimens; correctly applying EKG leads and running 12 lead EKG as requested; applying telemetry leads as ordered; performing hourly rounding and ensuring safety measures in place (ex.-bed/chair alarm, safe room environment without trip hazards, etc.); performing bedside shift report; utilizing AIDET-P; implementing fall prevention measures; obtaining: vital signs, accuchecks, hematests weights, accurate intake and output; maintaining appropriate hand hygiene compliance per policy; following appropriate isolation practices; maintaining a clean patient environment: providing linen changes, changing trash, cleaning environment, etc.; maintaining cleanliness of soiled utility rooms and equipment; stocking rooms with supplies as needed; documenting care provided and charging for appropriate items per nursing policy and procedure; maintaining patient safety during ambulation, transfers, re-positioning, etc.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
