Position Overview 
Responsible for ICD-10 and CPT Coding of all hospital and clinic services for the providers at Panorama in a timely fashion with a 95% accuracy rate. 
 Essential Functions 
<ul>
<li>Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers through prompt response and courteous communication within 24 hours of the request. </li>
<li>Review the daily unbill/rebill report for charges and assess clinical documentation to accurately assign CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II codes for office visits in the EPIC/NextGen system. Complete EPIC/ NextGen tasking within 24-48 hours with Urgent tasks completed same day. </li>
<li>Maintain unbilled reports at no greater than 72 hours postdate of service unless otherwise noted. </li>
<li>Access operative reports via POSC, Centura, and GRSC systems to complete CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HPCPS Level II coding for surgical procedures in the EPIC/ NextGen system. Maintain surgeries at no greater than 24 hours unless otherwise noted. </li>
<li>Access hospital records using the Centura and POSC systems to abstract charges for trauma and inpatient services (rounding) for entry into the EPIC/NextGen system. Maintain hospital/trauma charges at no greater than one month postdate of service unless otherwise noted. </li>
<li>Monitor the Coder’s Mailbox to address questions from medical staff based on coding assignments within 24 hours. </li>
<li>Update surgery tracker/NextGen or EPIC EHR for surgical quote tasks within 24 hours. </li>
<li>Review Navicure to address coding related claim edits and make needed corrections in Navicure and/or NextGen or EPIC systems on a daily basis. </li>
<li>Act as coding liaison to Trauma Service providers, providing information and education as needed </li>
<li>Complete abstract and coding services for Craig Rehab rounding as notified. </li>

JOB SUMMARY: The Surgery Medical Coder is responsible for all Endovascular &amp; Neurosurgery coding, accurately assigning CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for professional services rendered by neurosurgeons, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific guidelines. This role requires a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual with at least 2-3 years of experience in neurosurgical and endovascular coding. The ideal candidate must hold a recognized medical coding certification and demonstrate expertise in coding complex neurosurgical procedures, including but not limited to craniotomies, aneurysm repairs, embolization’s, and spinal surgeries. 
 
JOB DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Accurately assign CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for endovascular and neurosurgical procedures, ensuring proper reimbursement.
· Review and interpret operative reports, procedure notes, and medical records to assign appropriate codes.
· Ensure compliance with CMS, AMA, and payer-specific regulations regarding coding and billing guidelines.
· Identify and resolve coding discrepancies by collaborating with physicians, clinical staff, and revenue cycle team members.
· Apply National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits and payer-specific coding guidelines to ensure clean claim submissions.
· Collaborate with neurosurgeons and endovascular specialists to ensure proper documentation supports coding and billing and resolve any documentation discrepancies.
· Provide education to providers on documentation best practices and coding updates to maximize reimbursement and reduce compliance risks.
· Assist in the development and maintenance of coding procedures and training materials.
· Analyze and resolve coding-related denials and rejections by working with the billing and accounts receivable teams.
· Appeal insurance denials with supporting medical documentation and correct coding guidelines.

 POSITION TIMING: &nbsp;Immediate hire upon completion of all background and security investigations. &nbsp;
 ABOUT THE ROLE: The Medical Coder III position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate medical coding and documentation. This involves handling complex case scenarios, applying a combination of facility coding and professional coding, and aligning with industry standards like ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes. The coders will facilitate proper documentation and communication with medical staff to enhance compliance and coding accuracy.
 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: •&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Accurately assign various medical codes and modifiers for inpatient discharges and surgical procedures. •&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Review and resolve inconsistencies in medical documentation. •&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Educate and provide feedback to providers and clinical staff regarding documentation support. •&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Collaborate with medical coding auditors and provide coding guidance to staff. •&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Utilize Military Health System (MHS) to access and code patient records supporting other facilities. •&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Maintain Defense Health Agency (DHA) coding productivity and accuracy standards.
 QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS: •&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Professional coding certification such as CPC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS-P. •&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Institutional coding certification: CIC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS. •&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;E&amp;M coding certification: CEMC or CEMA. •&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;General skills in medical ethics, communication, and customer service.
 EDUCATION: •&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Post-high school education with an Associate’s degree or higher, or equivalent in a relevant field such as Health Information Management. &nbsp;
SCHEDULE:&nbsp; Monday through Friday for an eight-hour shift between the hours of 0630 and 1630, including a 30-minute meal break. The first 30 days on-site, with potential teleworking up to four times a week upon approval.&nbsp;
 PAY: $32.46 per hour
