Reporting to the Board of Directors, the School Director is simultaneously the public face of the school, an enthusiastic educator, and its central administrator. Administrative leadership at Maybeck is unique in this way. Maybeck was founded as a school run by teachers and this is still true today. While many schools centralize decision-making authority to a “Leadership Team,” at Maybeck, leadership is extended across all staff through several different committees that plan, propose, and decide policy and operations. To this end, Maybeck’s School Director must have a broad-minded definition of servant leadership, with sincere intention and demonstration of placing the group before the individual.
The Position and Strategic Priorities
In partnership with the staff, the Director will guide the school community both in everyday planning and long-term strategic direction, including helping to develop the next strategic plan. The Director is the outward facing spokesperson for the school, and as such, will provide persuasive and transparent communication that faithfully represents Maybeck’s culture and its core values. In guiding and structuring the efforts of the staff to achieve Maybeck’s mission, the Director will clarify Maybeck’s identity as a school through a collaborative process that will ultimately help strengthen Maybeck’s position in the marketplace.&nbsp;

The UCLA History Department seeks a historian of any region of Europe (including the Byzantine world) whose period of focus lies between 500 and 1400 CE. The successful candidate will be a senior Associate or Full Professor distinguished by a field-leading research and publication record, as well as a dedicated teacher and mentor. A PhD in history or a related field is required. Faculty Positions (Open Rank)

Founded in 2022, the Department of Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity (RDI) is home to an interdisciplinary group of scholars whose work engages the conceptual pillars of the unit. RDI is housed in the Social Sciences at the University but is committed to working across the social sciences, humanities, sciences, professional schools, and the arts to build a truly interdisciplinary, outward-facing department. RDI values community-engaged and informed work. We currently offer a robust undergraduate curriculum (including a major and a minor) and are preparing to launch a doctoral certificate. We plan to have PhD program in place within five years. The University has made a deep commitment to the Department that includes authorization to search for thirteen tenure-track colleagues over the next several years.
The Cluster Hire in Indigenous Studies
The Department of Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity at the University of Chicago invites applications for a cluster hire of Assistant/Associate/Full professors whose research and teaching focus is Indigenous Studies. We anticipate making multiple appointments to start on or after July 1, 2024.&nbsp; Applicants with PhDs in Indigenous or Native Studies as well as those with appropriate training in other fields, are encouraged to apply. The methodological approach is open. &nbsp;We are eager to hire scholars who see the prospect of working in an interdisciplinary Department that engages Indigeneity in tandem with race and diaspora as exciting and productive for their research and scholarship. We hope to hire colleagues working both locally and globally, including at least one colleague in this cluster whose work connects with Indigenous communities in Chicago and the Midwest and others who work further afield, including the Americas, the Caribbean, Eurasia, Africa, Oceania, and the Pacific. Potential thematic focus areas include, but are by no means limited to, creative and critical approaches to Indigeneity; anti/de-colonization movements; the relationship between Blackness and Indigeneity; land, dispossession, and property; sovereignty and Indigenous political thought; science studies; art and visual culture; migration and Indigeneity; settler colonialism; environmental justice and injustice; Indigenous epistemologies and methodologies; penal legal systems; tribal law, federal Indian law, and Indigeneity in international law; gender, sexuality and Indigeneity; and global and/or comparative approaches.
Qualifications: Terminal Degree in hand by the start of the appointment in a relevant field.
