The Associate Surgical Tech-Perioperative assists in the OR and Surgical Services Department (Pre/Post-op, Sterile Processing), cleaning and preparing patient bays and operating rooms, safely transporting patients, retrieving, decontaminating and delivering equipment, stocking general supplies, processing and maintaining equipment and instruments, and other duties assigned. May assist with prepping and opening supplies before surgery.
As a member of the surgical team, under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse Circulator, maintains the operating room sterile field; passes instruments, sutures, and sponges during surgery. Insures that proper aseptic technique is utilized to prevent contamination and infection. Performs in the role of second scrub and/or first assistant as needed. Assists the registered nurse with circulating duties.

Job Summary / Responsibilities
1. Scrubs on all types of operating procedures; handles surgical instruments, sutures &amp; sponges; anticipates the needs of the surgeon, assisting as necessary. Maintains strict aseptic technique, assumes joint responsibility with the circulating nurse for ensuring that all are accounted for during and after the operation. Observes patient's condition while in the OR; reports any changes to the staff nurse and/or anesthesia.
2. Prepares for scheduled operative procedures, ensuring that necessary equipment, instruments and supplies are available and ready for use.*
3. Maintains a clean and safe OR environment; cleans rooms and sterilizes equipment. Restocks OR with standard supplies and assists in updating surgical instrument sets. Maintains power equipment and specialty instrumentation within assigned specialty areas.* 
4. Assists in the transportation of patients to and from the OR; verifies patient identity; assists with lifting and positioning of patient for surgical procedures.*
5. May assist as second circulator under the direction of a registered nurse. Prepares materials to be presented in dept in-service education programs as assigned. Assists in the trial and evaluation of new surgical products. Provides input to managers in developing new policies and procedures for the department. Participates on committees as assigned.* 
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.*

SUMMARY:
The Surgical Technician assists the circulating nurse in preparation of surgical patients by performance of routine and delegated duties according to standards and policies. The Surgical Technician scrubs for surgical procedures, cleans instruments and rooms, and opens for cases using aseptic technique and the standards of care. The Surgical Technician will monitor inventory and stocks OR rooms. The individual works closely with physicians and provides service to the "physician customer" to provide excellent patient care. In addition, as it relates to reprocessing job duties, the surgical technician is responsible for all decontamination, cleaning, inspecting, packaging, sterilizing and labeling of reusable items. The Surgery Technician assists in facilitating the daily surgery schedule and intake of facility supplies.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
? Assist and anticipate needs of surgeon relating to instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies according to technique, procedure and special requirements
? Prepare for surgical and special procedures cases by:
* Picking supplies and equipment for the procedure
* Ensuring that all necessary supplies and equipment are available
* Maintaining inventory and stock rooms
? Familiarize self with procedures performed
? Know and understand surgeons' preferences
? Maintain sterile technique at all times

Position Summary:

The Surgical Technician demonstrates basic knowledge and skills in the scrub role, necessary to provide assistance during surgical procedures.&nbsp;

Responsibilities:
\n
The Surgical Technician is responsible for aseptic technique, setting up the required equipment, instrumentation and sterile supplies as needed for their assigned cases; scrubbing and passing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures; pulling cases as needed, breaking down cases at the end of the procedure, sets up operating room and supplies needed for day/following day’s schedule. Available for call on an assigned scheduled basis as required by unit need. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education:

Required: Graduate of surgical technician program as required by state regulation of practice or policy.

Experience:
\n
Preferred: 1 year experience as a surgical technician.&nbsp;

Certifications:

Required: BLS.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Preferred: Surgical Technology Certification.
