The Oakland Housing Authority’s Police Officers’ authority comes from Section 830.31(d) of the California Penal Code. The Department is currently POST certified, and one of twenty nationally accredited agencies in California through CALEA. Under general supervision, officers patrol authority owned property, perform all the duties of a police officer and performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

<li>Responsible for the prevention of crime and the protection of life and property; and</li>
<li>Patrols Authority owned property by car and by foot; and</li>
<li>Enforces the California Penal and Vehicle Code, as well as the Authority rules and regulations within the boundaries of authority owned and controlled property; and</li>

SELECTION
All applications will be carefully reviewed. The selection process will include a physical ability test, an oral interview and a personal history review. Successful applicants will be placed on a list of qualifiers. Based on position on the list, applicants will complete a polygraph or Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) Examination and intensive background investigation. Successful candidates will be scheduled for an interview with the Department Director. Those passing will be given a conditional job offer and scheduled for a medical and psychological examination. The entire process should be completed within 90 days. Note: applicants currently enrolled in police academies may substitute the basic academy entry-level examination and successful completion of the academy’s physical ability program for the written &amp; physical ability portions. 
The physical ability performance test is mandatory and only given to those applicants who are applying for the position of police officer. The test has been developed by POST as a standard to measure physical characteristics of strength, endurance, and the agility necessary to perform job-related functions of a police officer. The applicant must pass all parts of the test within the allotted time period. The test shall be scored as pass or fail.
 1. Elements of the physical ability performance test are:
<ol>
<li>Obstacle Course/Agility Run: Run a 99-yard obstacle course consisting of several sharp turns, a number of curb-height obstacles, and a 34-inch-high obstacle that must be vaulted.</li>
<li>Body Drag: Life and drag a 165-pound lifelike dummy 32 feet.</li>
<li>Solid Fence Climb: Run 5 yards to a 6-foot solid fence, climb over fence, and continue running another 25 yards.</li>
<li>500 Yard Run: Run 500 yards</li>
</ol>

The Deputy Superintendent contributes to establishing the mission, leadership vision, and core values that govern all work efforts within the agency. Together with the leadership team, the Deputy Superintendent recommends goals and objectives, prioritizes and assigns work, formulates and implements policy, develops and prepares internal reports, develops community policing programs, and oversees staff development.
The Deputy Superintendent serves as the agency head during the absence or unavailability of the Superintendent. This position is distinguished from subordinate Police Sergeant, Commissioned Officer, and Patrol Officer positions by its senior leadership and policy responsibilities.

Cayuga Nation is a Sovereign Native American Nation enjoying a government-to-government relationship with the United States, as guaranteed by treaty. This is an entry level sworn position performing responsible and visible work in law enforcement to preserve the peace, protect persons and property in the city, and enforce federal and state laws, and city ordinances and by-laws. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position. Salary range is $28.23 to $40.83. Position is open until filled.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Works under the general supervision of a First Line or Mid-Level Supervisory Officer. Work is performed in accordance with extensive established rules, regulation, and instructions from superior officers who review work through reports, conferences, and observation of efficiency and effectiveness of completed work.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT:

Individuals selected as entry level police officers are not required to have all of the training, or to have developed all of the skills necessary to perform the functions of the position immediately upon selection.
