ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

<li>Assist the teacher in monitoring and helping students complete their lessons, projects, and other goals.</li>

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education and/or Experience: Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or obtain an Associates Degree (or higher); required. Experience working with youth and/or families. Experience working in an educational setting is preferred.
 
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization.
 
Mathematic Skills: Ability to do simple computations, calculate percentages, and use a calculator.
 
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to apply verbal de-escalation skills as part of crisis intervention. About Us: OJA’s Central Oklahoma Juvenile Center (COJC) located in Tecumseh, Oklahoma, is a state-of-the-art campus for young people receiving secure care treatment. OYACS faculty and staff have joined OJA/COJC because they believe education can greatly improve the lives of Oklahoma’s most at-risk youth. Although time-tested instructional methods that have proven effective are retained and utilized in the classroom, OYACS faculty eagerly embrace creative and innovative techniques for improving learning for OJA’s unique population of students.
This position is a safety sensitive position as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8 (K)(1)(i)(2) due to providing direct childcare. Therefore, those applicants testing positive for marijuana will not be hired even when in possession of a valid medical marijuana license.

The Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA), Oklahoma Youth Academy Charter School (OYACS) is looking for a Paraprofessional to assist teachers and students in daily classroom curriculum. If you want to make a meaningful impact on the lives of Oklahoma’s youth, we’d love to hear from you! You can play a key role in supporting the educational growth of youth, including those who may be experiencing hardship. Join our team to help students fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and social growth.
Key Responsibilities&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>Communications: Establishes and maintains effective educational relationships with students and teachers.&nbsp; Communicates high expectations for all students.&nbsp; Promotes a positive environment and exchanges ideas.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Substitute in Classrooms:&nbsp;&nbsp; Maintains classroom management in accordance with OYACS standards.&nbsp; Keeps students at their curriculum pace even in the absence of the teacher. Assists the students with their specific content (all classes) without pausing the pace.</li>
<li>Tutoring: Assists students with practice and deepen their understanding of new and existing knowledge.&nbsp; Assist students in every class as needed.</li>

Schedule and Compensation
<ul>
<li>Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:15 AM – 3:15 PM.</li>
<li>Salary commensurate with experience and certifications.</li>
</ul>
Minimum Qualifications&nbsp;
Must meet Tier 1 requirements upon hire.&nbsp; Tier 2 requirements can be met within 120 days of hire date.
Tier 1:
High School Diploma and one of the following:
<ul>
<li>Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (no less than 48 hours of college coursework), OR</li>
<li>Earned an Associate’s Degree (or higher), OR</li>
<li>Take and pass the ACT WorkKeys Assessment scoring a Bronze or higher</li>
</ul>
Tier 2
Initial Requirements
<ul>
<li>OSDE approved Paraprofessional training through career technology centers or other state-approved training providers</li>
