Hours: 8:00pm – 6:30am Monday –Friday &amp; 6:00pm – 6:30am every other Saturday &amp; Sunday. This is an 80 hour per pay (two week pay period) position Sign on Bonus: 1 year experience $10,000, 2 or more years’ experience up to $20,000, POSITION SUMMARY: Performs routine and complex analytical procedures, recognizes deviations and provides interpretation following established standards and practices. ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1. Performs testing • Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies. • Process biological specimens for analysis. Evaluate and solves problems related to specimen collection and processing. • Performs routine and complex analytical procedures, recognizes deviations, and provides interpretation. • Operates instruments and performs procedures within the scope of training. 2. Maintenance • Performs scheduled maintenance procedures. • Recognizes equipment malfunctions and acts according to established protocols. 3. Quality Control • Performs, records, and maintains accurate quality control records. Recognizes out of control results and takes appropriate actions. 4. Knowledge Resource • Answers inquiries regarding results and factors affecting results. Acts as a liaison and fosters effective communication between laboratory and health care team, maintaining patient confidentiality. 5. Computer System • Performs routine inquiry and data input on the laboratory computer systems. • Ensures accuracy of information in the computer systems and is responsible for corrective actions. • Utilizes computer software to enhance specialty area. 6. Training/Competency Assessment • Instructs new associates and students as required. • With respect to experience and education, assesses competencies of other test performers. 7. Continuing Education • Must complete required number of CE units • Must complete mandatory in-services • Maintains and upgrades personal professional development. 8. Team Leader • Provides guidance to co-workers in the absence of an on-site Supervisor regarding staffing and technical issues that arise. 9. Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Education: Doctoral, Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution or transcripts showing 60 semester hours from an accredited institution indicating 24 semester hours of medical technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours in chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical technology in any combination OR meet an alternate qualification route for Testing Personnel for High Complexity Testing as detailed in §493.1489 • Years of Experience: Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS OR meet an alternate experience route for High Complexity Testing Personnel as detailed in §493.1489. • Certification: American Society of Pathology (ASCP) MLS or Categorical eligible at time of hire with certification achieved within one year of hire. Point of Care Lab Technician
Under supervision of Laboratory Manager, performs waived laboratory tests in a remote or mobile setting. Also responsible for monitoring quality of reagents and working condition of instruments.
 
Essential Functions:

<li>Receives specimens from phlebotomists and couriers.</li>
<li>May operate a delivery van to bring the mobile lab to an area of high volume of STAT testing when applicable.</li>
<li>Enters patient demographics and test orders into lab information system.</li>
<li>Checks the quality control of each test prior to running and reporting patient results. Ensures QC is within appropriate limits and brings problems to a supervisor/manager in real time.</li>
<li>Performs lab testing in the areas of point of care which may include Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Molecular and Coagulation.</li>

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you play a key role in the Clinical Lab. You are responsible for maintaining quality in our laboratory through all stages of testing; preanalytical, analytical, and post-analytical. You would help process specimens and ensure specimens are properly labeled. You would ensure quality specimens were collected, spun down, and maintained at proper storage. You would make sure that the instrumentation is properly cleaned and maintained. You would perform, analyze, and document quality control samples for all testing in the lab. You would ensure that quality results were going out to our providers and patients. This would include any critical results are called to the provider and logged quickly and properly. You would troubleshoot any issues with the equipment and facilitate calls for repairs when the need arises. You would help answer testing questions to clients and provide any help in the testing process for our patients. You would ensure all documentation is completed properly and stored for the appropriate amount of time. At the end of the day, you would make sure that all specimens are properly stored, testing is completed, and instrumentation is properly shut down or put in standby mode. Ultimately you would oversee or perform any task needed to get fast accurate results out to our clients.
