BMG is looking for a Machinist to work in our Beaverton, MI location. &nbsp;Our Machinists set-up, operate and maintain lathes and mills to produce precision parts. &nbsp;They are comfortable with some machine programming and are responsible for setting up the machine, selecting the approprate tools, adjusting the machine to control speed, material feed, and make sure machines are set up properly and working well. &nbsp;Our machinists inspect product using gauging instruments to maintain specified requirements. &nbsp;
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

<li>Assure that material to be machined is correct for the job.</li>

<li>Inspect parts during and after machining to ensure accuracy using precision measuring instruments.</li>
<li>Assist in training personnel when appropriate including machine, job, fixture, and part specific issues as they arise on a day to day basis.</li>

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where quality, precision, and safety are top priorities. The machinist will be skilled in the use of precision machinery and equipment such as lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, hydraulic presses, band saws, push broaches, and a variety of cutting tools and grinding equipment in order to machine shafts, pins, bushings, gears, cut key seats and key slots, drill and tap holes, and cut OD and ID threads such as SAE and ACME; ability to cut tapered API threads would be highly preferred. The machinist will collaborate closely with the general manager, project manager, and other machinists and welders to meet project timelines and maintain the highest manufacturing standards.
Qualifications General:
<ul>
<li>Proven experience as a machinist or machine shop technician (minimum of 3 years).</li>
<li>High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification preferred.</li>
<li>Strong understanding of machining techniques and machine tooling principles for manual machine operations and some CNC programming.</li>
<li>Familiarity with primarily manual and some CNC machines.</li>
<li>Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.</li>
<li>Proficiency with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.</li>
<li>Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.</li>
<li>Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.</li>
<li>Knowledge of workplace safety standards and procedures.</li>

Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation: Set up and operate primarily manual machines (lathe, mill, grinder, etc.) to produce high-quality, precise parts. Some CNC operations.
Blueprint Reading: Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and specifications to determine machining procedures and dimensions.
Quality Control: Inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, and other measuring instruments to ensure adherence to design tolerances.
Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting of machines to ensure reliable, efficient operation.
Tool Management: Select, inspect, and maintain cutting tools, fixtures, and related equipment.
Safety Compliance: Follow all safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
Collaboration: Work closely with engineering and production teams to optimize workflow and meet deadlines.
Continuous Improvement: Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance productivity and efficiency.
Problem Solving: Disassemble and reassemble customer equipment to perform machining repairs such as electrical motors, gear boxes, winches, and many other assorted equipment.
Professional Tool Set Requirements
An experienced professional machinist is expected to furnish their own basic machine tool set including but not limited to: basic measuring equipment such as OD/ID micrometers, calipers, scales, basic hand tools, crescent wrenches, allen wrenches, screw drivers and files.

 Work Environment

This role requires expertise in conventional and precision machining tools and techniques. Responsibilities:

<li>Fabricate and modify components from metals, alloys, plastics, and other materials.</li>

<li>Knowledgeable of the physical properties of numerous metals, metal alloys, plastics, rubber, and other materials to determine their adaptability to the specifications required of the item to be made; and the effect of hardening, annealing, and stress relieving on metals and metal alloys to choose the proper materials for specific items to be made and make dimensional allowances for such processes.</li>
<li>Proficiency in advanced shop mathematics, including plane geometry, the use of trigonometric functions, and toolmaker handbook formulas in establishing needed dimensions and plan and layout work.</li>
<li>Experience with precision instruments and inspection techniques.</li>
<li>Skilled in planning, layout, machining, assembly, and hand finishing of work to precise dimensions and close tolerances. </li>
<li>Skilled in adapting, setting up, and operating a variety of conventional machine tools and attachments to perform special and precise machining operations by devising and constructing fixtures and holding devices; and in the set up and operation of specialized and precision machines such as jig borers, jig grinders, internal and external thread grinders, and various types of electrical discharge machines to manufacture, overhaul, and repair tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, molds, and gages. </li>
<li>Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, multi-view mechanical drawings, and sketches, or to prepare own sketches from oral or written instructions; to calculate and work to precise dimensions and very close tolerances; make detailed and exact work layouts, and accomplish complex machine setups. </li>
<li>Ability to check the accuracy of existing tools, jigs, fixtures, and gages; and fabricate, repair, modify, and calibrate precision measuring instruments used in the machine shops. </li>
