QUALIFICATIONS: Must be knowledgeable in modern office methods, practices, and procedures, Business English, punctuation, spelling, and arithmetic; and must be skilled in computer data entry, Microsoft Office, Internet functions, and the use of office equipment. Must possess a valid Driver's license; be detail-oriented; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships, and remain calm and react appropriately during stressful situations. 
DUTIES: Perform a variety of complex clerical duties involving elections, registering voters, answering the public's questions, and answering the telephone; prepare outgoing mail and receiving mail; maintain records; must be able to work independently; may perform physical duties, such as bending, stooping, standing, using a step-ladder, intermittent strenuous physical activity, and moving boxes weighing up to 65 lbs. 
HOURS/DAYS: Hours will vary. M-F; some evenings and weekends. Applicant must be able to work a flexible/varied schedule from February through November 2026. 
This position will not start work until mid to late February 2026
WAGE: $16.75/hourly.

General Summary 
The Clerical Administrator performs a variety of clerical, recordkeeping, and customer service tasks to assist with the smooth operation of the Township. The Clerical Administrator is under the direct supervision of a department head or designated assistant. 
 
Typical Duties

<li>In accordance with well-defined procedures, receives materials or requests over-the-counter or by telephone, and email, such as requests for licenses, permits, or general service. Conducts record searches upon request and/or issues appropriate permits and licenses. </li>

<li>Serves as departmental receptionist receiving telephone calls and walk-in visitors requesting general information, explaining routine service and practice. Refers unusual or irregular requests to department head. </li>

Job Description
As a Postal Clerk you will oversees the movement, sorting, and distribution of mail at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Performs a variety of detailed accounting duties in accordance with standard accounting procedures with minimal supervision and guidance.
POSITION: Postal Clerk 
SEASON: Austral Summer (Summer 2026-2027)
LOCATION: McMurdo Station, Antarctica
SALARY: $756 - $859 per week
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
<ul>
<li>Follows and applies DOD, USAF, PACAF, U.S. Postal Service (USPS), Military Postal Service Agency (MPSA), Joint Military Postal Activity-PAC (JMPA-PAC), 6005 AIRPS and PACAF AIRPS directives/policies as they pertain to the Military Postal Service (MPS), Air Force postal operations, and financial issues in the PACAF command in support of the McMurdo APO.</li>
<li>Assists customers who need help with filing USPS insurance claims.</li>
<li>Assists Postal Supervisor with preparations for official USAF quarterly audits.</li>
<li>Support of U.S. Air Force and South Pole postal activities as needed. Assists Postal Supervisor with pre-deployment training for South Pole postal supervisor.</li>
<li>Performs the duties of the Postal Supervisor in the latter position's absence.</li>
<li>Performs the sorting, receipt, and distribution of accountable and non-accountable mail at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Scans all mail on arrival and again when it is delivered or becomes Directory Service mail. Tracking information is uploaded daily on AMPS.</li>
<li>Completes all AMPS training when required by MPSA.</li>
<li>Monitors and maintains current file of bi-monthly USPS Postal Bulletins per DOD.</li>
<li>Provides a Directory Service for all misrouted mail and mail addressed to personnel no longer at McMurdo Station. Maintains a current file of forwarding cards.</li>
<li>Controls USPS and Air Force-owned non-accountable equipment.</li>
<li>Coordinates with the Movement Control Center for outgoing and incoming accountable and non-accountable mail.</li>
<li>Must be able to lift and move 75 lbs.</li>
<li>Ensures compliance with Safety, Environment, Health, and Waste Management policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Interacts with the National Science Foundation, armed forces, and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person, in a professional and tactful manner.</li>
<li>Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring safety is the highest priority in the work place. Ongoing work center cleaning and recycling tasks.</li>
<li>Orders Postal supplies from many different sources, such as MDC, USPS and GSA. Keeps all inventory records up to date. Performs complete inventory twice per year.</li>
<li>Orders and maintains all PACAF-required posters and visual aids in the lobby, post office and mailroom.</li>
<li>Maintains a log of all personnel deployed to camps and unit mail departments. Utilizing the log to ensure that all camp mail is distributed to the proper Unit Mail Clerk (DD285).</li>
<li>Participates in MCI trainings and drill as determined by supervisor.</li>
<li>Trains Unit Mail Clerks and assists them with their duties. Maintains official Unit Mail Clerk records.</li>
<li>Safeguards all mail to the highest standards of safety, security and privacy.</li>
<li>Follows all current PACAF directives for election mail.</li>
<li>Completes and maintains all PS3849s in compliance with USPS regulations for accountable mail.</li>
<li>When needed, assists Postal Supervisor to prepare all mail for dispatch.</li>
<li>Keeps Safety Log and AF Training Log updated.</li>
<li>Performs other duties as required.</li>
</ul>
EDUCATION:
<ul>
<li>High School Diploma or equivalent is required.</li>
</ul>
CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
<ul>
<li>AMPs account required or ability to obtain prior to employment. </li>
<li>Current ServSafe Food Handler certificate must be obtained prior to deployment to Antarctica. </li>
<li>Valid driver's license </li>
<li>Valid U.S. Passport</li>
</ul>
EXPERIENCE:
<ul>
<li>Two years of customer service experience required. </li>
<li>Basic computer skills with word processing, spreadsheets and databases required. </li>
<li>Previous experience with Station Services in Antarctica may be accepted on lieu of minimum experience. </li>
</ul>
OTHER: 
<ul>
<li>US citizenship and permanent residency required. </li>
<li>A prerequisite of employment for this position is to successfully gain a favorable Tier 1 - Elevated Background Investigation (EBI) result prior to deployment. Candidates hired for this position will be required to complete; online forms, written forms, fingerprint cards and provide additional details and information as requested by NSF Personnel Security.</li>
