Responsibilities

The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor/Technician is responsible for the operation of the Beresh Pain Management Laboratory, under direction of the Laboratory Director, including urine toxicology testing by EIA and LC-MS/MS. This role will include specimen preparation, instrument maintenance, instrument operation, data analysis, and certifying lab reports according to established SOPs and CLIA regulations. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, the ability to multitask, and the ability to use, maintain, and troubleshoot high-complexity instrumentation.
NOTE: Part-time role requires availability to process up to 90 specimens every week on Friday or Saturday (on-site), with data analysis and certifying to be completed every week on Saturday or Sunday (remote option available).
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
<ul>
<li>Perform all testing processes including specimen preparation, specimen testing by enzyme immunoassay (EIA), and specimen testing by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) following established standard operating procedures (SOPs)</li>
<li>Adhere to HIPAA and CLIA regulatory standards</li>
<li>Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot EIA and LC-MS/MS instrumentation</li>
<li>Utilize the laboratory information system (LIS) for patient and instrument data management</li>
<li>Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for each step in the testing process</li>

<li>Generate LC-MS/MS worklists from the LIS and format for the instrument software</li>

<li>Perform LC-MS/MS chromatography data analysis using instrument software, ensuring Pre-QC and Post-QC acceptable results for each batch of patient specimens; program reruns/reinjections as needed</li>
<li>Review and approve quality control data in LIS for each batch of patient specimens</li>
<li>Review EIA and LC-MS/MS patient data in LIS before certifying and releasing final lab reports</li>
<li>Maintain inventory for all lab supplies, reagents, and consumables</li>
<li>Prepare quality controls and calibrators from certified standard materials</li>

<li>Maintain and document the optimal functioning of laboratory equipment. Use, calibrate, and identify malfunctions; repair and perform preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment</li>
<li>Troubleshoot issues with laboratory instruments and resolve problems. Diagnose deviations in test performance due to instrument malfunction</li>
<li>Perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities and corrective actions related to test performance using statistical principles and theories of performance improvement</li>
<li>Identify discrepancies, solve problems, and present solutions</li>
<li>Answer inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity, test sensitivity, and specific factors that influence test results. Interpret results and suggest follow-up test selection or procedures</li>
<li>Must meet all acceptable quality and productivity standards as defined by Chief, P&amp;LMS or designee</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned</li>

Job Description
Granite County Medical Center is a critical access hospital, 25 bed capacity with two healthcare clinics providing ER, X-ray and PT services. Located in historic town of Philipsburg in the Pintler mountains offering a range of recreational outdoor activities including downhill skiing, stream or lake fishing, hiking, camping, mountain lakes, ice hockey, award winning micro-brewery, sapphire mining and summer theater.
Job Duties: 
-The lab technician position is per diem providing coverage for vacations, emergencies and busy times of the year.
-24 hour coverage in addition to any call time coverage, and to be available according to the call back policy. 
<ul>
<li>performing laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations;</li>
<li>carrying out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies to carry out analyses;</li>
<li>preparing specimens and samples;</li>
<li>constructing, maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment, for example centrifuges, titrators, pipetting machines and pH meters;</li>
<li>ensuring the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced;</li>
<li>recording and sometimes interpreting results to present to senior colleagues;</li>
<li>using computers and performing mathematical calculations for the preparation of graphs;</li>
<li>keeping up to date with technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve reliability;</li>
<li>demonstrating practical procedures if working in education;</li>
<li>conducting searches on identified topics relevant to the research;</li>
<li>following and ensuring strict safety procedures and safety checks.</li>
</ul>
 
Education, Training and Experience:
 
-Must meet the requirements for a clinical laboratory technician as noted in the current rules pertaining to clinical laboratory science practitioners in the State of Montana. 
-Requirements under CLIA regulations that must be met
-Regulations that concern continuing education must also be met
All patients testing by the clinical laboratory technician will be under the supervision of the laboratory supervisor.
-All results will be checked within 24 hours, either by telephone, in person, or by electronic means. 
-Must posses a current MT CLT license.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
<ol>
<li>To perform specific tests in areas mentioned above. See the lab QA manual for the list of tests which each lab employee is authorized by the lab director to perform. The testing includes calibration, actual testing procedures, preparation of reagents, internal and external quality control, and reporting of results. The testing of the laboratory technician is expected and required to be performed accurately, precisely, and dependably 100% of the time.</li>
<li>To forward samples to appropriate labs when tests are ordered that are not in this facility.</li>
<li>Keep accurate records on all patient test results and all quality control.</li>
<li>Provide periodic preventive maintenance on all laboratory equipment, instruments, etc.</li>
<li>To insure that the laboratory is neat, clean, and in efficient running order at all times and to provide a safe working environment.</li>
<li>To keep abreast of recent technical developments in lab medicine and acquire 14 hours of continuing education per year.</li>
<li>To generally assist and cooperate with the laboratory supervisor in providing the best possible functioning of the laboratory and in turning out reliable and cost effective work.</li>
