The Cardiac Catheterization Lab provides services to all in-house patients or outpatients, patients directly from the Emergency Room, or patients transferred from other health care facilities, excluding pediatric patients. Basic physical, emotional and educational assessment of patients undergoing cardiac catheterization. Analgesia and moderate sedation needs are assessed prior, during and post procedure by the nurse. Assistance to physicians performing diagnostic and interventional procedures; pharmacologic and hemodynamic support of patients before, during and after all invasive procedures. Post-procedural assessment, stabilization and transfer to appropriate medical/surgical service.

Unit Description: The Cardiovascular Unit provides professional nursing care to out-patients for planned procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Electrophysiology Lab, Non-Invasive Cardiology, Interventional Radiology Lab, and a variety of Radiology procedures. This dynamic 15 bay unit provides Pre- and Post-Procedural care. You will be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team dedicated to patient &amp; family-centered care with responsibility for treating a diverse patient population. Our unit is open Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
On-call: Occasional from 6:30 p.m.- 9:30 p.m. following contract Article 9- Per Diem Employment, " a minimum of 36 hours of On Call per calendar year".

 JOB SUMMARY
The CARDIAC CATHETERIZATION LABORATORY NURSE specializes primarily in the care of patients undergoing diagnostic cardiac catheterization, interventional cardiac procedures, insertion of permanent and temporary pacemakers, and insertion of intra-aortic balloon pumps. The nurse is responsible for the operation of specialized equipment in a safe and efficient manner, assisting in diagnostic catheterization, and interventional cardiac procedures, and patient care during the procedure. The nurse works under the direct supervision of the physician and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory manager or supervisor.
EDUCATION
Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate or Baccalaureate School of Nursing.
LICENSURE
Current and unrestricted state or compact license as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice.
EXPERIENCE
At least two years experience as a cardiac catheterization laboratory nurse in a clinical setting.
CREDENTIALS:
Advanced CPR credentials, such as ACLS; NALS may be required for cardiac catheterization nurses working with the pediatric population; health and screening tests as required by specific facilities and/or regulatory agencies.

JOB SUMMARY
The CARDIAC CATHETERIZATION LABORATORY NURSE specializes primarily in the care of patients undergoing diagnostic cardiac catheterization, interventional cardiac procedures, insertion of permanent and temporary pacemakers, and insertion of intra-aortic balloon pumps. The nurse is responsible for the operation of specialized equipment in a safe and efficient manner, assisting in diagnostic catheterization, and interventional cardiac procedures, and patient care during the procedure. The nurse works under the direct supervision of the physician and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory manager or supervisor.

EDUCATION
Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate or Baccalaureate School of Nursing.
LICENSURE

At least one year experience as a cardiac catheterization laboratory nurse in a clinical setting.
CREDENTIALS:
Advanced CPR credentials, such as ACLS; NALS may be required for cardiac catheterization nurses working with the pediatric population; health and screening tests as required by specific facilities and/or regulatory agencies.

Various client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.

Prepares patient for procedures to be performed in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory utilizing the Database Assessment form. Obtains appropriate permit for procedure to be performed, performs pre-op teaching and all other aspects of nursing care necessary to prepare patient for his procedure.
Removes arterial and venous sheaths following procedures utilizing the protocol outlined in the Cath Lab procedure manual. Monitors physiologic parameters and demonstrates knowledge of arrhythmias and patterns of infarction and ischemia. Responsible for discharge instructions to patient and family. Communicates with personnel from the Nursing Units to give a thorough report so as to provide the best continuum of care for the patient. Is able to assess and intervene quickly in an emergency situation.

<li>Prepares patient for procedure. Interviews patient utilizing Database assessment form, obtains appropriate permit for procedure to be performed, performs pre-op teaching utilizing hospital education form, starts IV, places electrodes and palpates appropriate pulses.</li>
<li>Documents and assesses all pertinent patient data and reports any abnormal findings that may interfere or alter the procedure to the Cardiologist.</li>
