POSITION SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of your job position is to assist with planning, organizing, developing, and directing overall operation of our Nursing Service Department following the current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern long term care and assisted living facilities. You are entrusted to ensure that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to our residents at all times.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

<li>Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the nursing service department, as well as its programs and activities</li>
<li>Develop, maintain, and periodically update written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department</li>
<li>Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary</li>
<li>Determine the staffing needs</li>
<li>Recommend the number and level of nursing personnel to be employed</li>
<li>Assist in calculating the number of direct nursing personnel care on duty each shift</li>
<li>Ensure that all nursing assistants are enrolled in or have graduated from an approved training program</li>
<li>Develop work assignments and schedule duty hours</li>
<li>Make daily rounds of the nursing service department to ensure all nursing personnel are performing their work assignments</li>
<li>Review complaints and grievances made or filed by department personnel</li>
<li>Ensure that disciplinary action is administered fairly</li>
<li>Participate in the interviewing and selection of residents for admission</li>
<li>Develop a written plan of care for each resident that identifies the problems/needs, indicated the care to be given, goals to be accomplished, and which professional service is responsible for each element of care</li>
<li>Prepare and plan the nursing service department's budget and submit to the Administrator.</li>
<li>Schedule, attend, and participate in nursing service meetings</li>

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

EDUCATION:

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is responsible to assist in the overall management and supervision of all nursing programs including program students and instructors. The ADON must maintain program standards, including continued compliance with all state and federal regulations governing program operation. The ADON will provide instruction to both theory and clinical settings. The ADON will also review instructor practice in theory and clinical settings, ensuring compliance with program guidelines. The ADON workload is expected to be 80% teaching and 20% administrative.

The Assistant Director of Nursing It is responsible for oversight of care staff, including scheduling, training, developing, and coaching. The Assistant Director of Nursing will also be responsible for assessments, documentation, and oversight of care for the residents. They will partner with the Director of Nursing to provide excellent care. 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES TO INCLUDE:

<li>Promotes and supports a positive work environment focused on team building and collaboration.</li>
<li>Provides on-call backup to the community when not on duty. </li>
<li>Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent personal or health information concerning residents and staff.</li>
<li>Ensures that all the needs are met for the residents as well as supervises staff that are on the shift.</li>
<li>Ensures that any incident reports are completed properly and promptly.</li>
<li>Prepares necessary medical paperwork for all scheduled resident appointments.</li>
<li>Assists with compliance in meeting regulations and is available for state licensure surveys.</li>
<li>Maintains resident files and appropriate documents as required.</li>
<li>Assists Medication Aides and Caregivers in service delivery and training as requested.</li>
<li>Notifies DON of any new doctors' orders that are received and informs the DON of any med changes.</li>
<li>Performs inventory management for medication administration by Medication Aides and checks new medications from the pharmacy.</li>
<li>Communicates in staff communication book any information that staff needs to be aware of.</li>

<li>Schedules care conferences and updates care plans in accordance with regulations.</li>
<li>Reviews, edits, and creates nursing policy drafts to be reviewed and finalized by the Executive Director and/or DON.</li>
<li>Develops and updates codebook for assisted living and memory care.</li>
<li>Obtains, administers, and documents prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques and facility standards of practice.</li>
<li>Observes residents, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor, family (responsible party), and physician of residents change in condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.</li>
<li>Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess the condition of resident. </li>
<li>Keeps resident family and physician informed of any changes in resident behavior, medications, or conditions of health.</li>
<li>Other duties as needed.</li>
</ul>
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
<ul>
<li>Familiarity with PointClickCare software a plus.</li>
<li>Previous experience in a leadership role in an assisted living community.</li>
<li>Holds an active LPN or RN license.</li>
<li>Minimum of two years' experience in a healthcare facility.</li>
<li>Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.</li>
