Position Summary

The Medical Receptionist plays a vital role as the first point of contact for patients and visitors. This individual ensures the smooth operation of the front office by managing patient check-in/out, scheduling appointments, maintaining accurate records, and providing outstanding customer service in a fast-paced surgical office environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Greet patients and visitors with professionalism and courtesy.

· Register new patients and verify insurance information accurately.

· Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments, surgeries, and follow-ups.

· Answer phones promptly and route clinical calls appropriately per office protocol.

· Collect co-pays, deductibles, and outstanding balances; process payments.

· Maintain up-to-date patient records in Athenahealth electronic health system.

· Ensure accuracy of appointment notes and provider schedules.

· Assist with patient forms, referrals, and coordination of medical records.

· Support clinical staff and providers as needed to ensure efficient workflow.

· Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

· Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Practice Manager.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework in medical office administration preferred.

· Minimum of 1 year experience in a medical office setting (surgery or specialty preferred).

· Experience with Athenahealth or similar EMR system highly preferred.

· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

· Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.

· Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
