Patient Access Associate II, Day Shift, Patient Access

Howard University Hospital seeks to hire a Patient Access Associate II in the Patient Access Department, who will embrace our rich and historic tradition of excellence.

As a Patient Access Associate II, you will:

  • Contact insurance carriers and/or reviews information from automated insurance verification systems to determine coverage and eligibility, i.e. ECS line and HDX Eligibility.
  • Initiate and view HDX Eligibility and Search America or similar application to screen all insurance plans during the registration process.
  • Conduct follow ups with patients involved in accidents (motor and industrial) or their representing attorneys to obtain required insurance, financial and/or accident information.
  • Contact insurance companies to inform of elective and emergency admissions, elective and urgent surgical cases, medical admissions, diagnostic cases, and elective ambulatory (in and out) surgical cases prior to and at the time of service.
  • Immediately identify and refer all uninsured patients, refer to third party eligibility vendor and or start financial assistance application.
  • Assist in periodic Charge Master, Service Master or other profile master audits to ensure maximization of revenue capture.
  • Research CPT codes and prepares Self Pay contracts for all self-pay patients.
  • Perform Quality Assurance audits, complete pre-bill reports that affects or delays claim submission.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all-inclusive.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or Healthcare
  • Five (5) years’ experience in patient access/registration, billing, cash collections, insurance, pre-certifications or related experience in a medical center/physician office environment.
  • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) or equivalent preferred

  • Pay Range: $19.00 - $30.40 hourly
    • Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
