Mechanical Technician (MAS)

Location: FANUC America Corporation – Rochester Hills, MI


Position Summary

FANUC America is seeking a Mechanical Technician to support the assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and preparation of robotic automation systems. This role is responsible for building and modifying FANUC products according to engineering specifications while maintaining the highest quality and safety standards.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with tools, technical drawings, and industrial equipment. This position offers hands-on experience with robotics, automation systems, and advanced manufacturing technologies.


Key Responsibilities

Assembly & Manufacturing

  • Assemble, modify, and configure robotic systems and related equipment using engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Follow Manufacturing Process Plans and document all required in-process inspections and quality checks.
  • Install, position, and secure robots and automation equipment according to engineering specifications.
  • Demonstrate workmanship that meets FANUC, customer, and industry quality standards.

Testing & Troubleshooting

  • Perform product testing and functional verification based on engineering requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during assembly and testing.
  • Operate robots using teach pendants when required.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying issues and contributing to process enhancements.

Shipping & Equipment Management

  • Disassemble and prepare products for shipment.
  • Properly maintain and utilize company tools and equipment.
  • Follow all tool management and inventory procedures.
  • Operate material-handling equipment such as forklifts, cranes, and scissor lifts after certification.

Safety & Professionalism

  • Comply with all FANUC safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout, hazardous materials handling, and robot safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.


Required Qualifications

FANUC hires at multiple technician levels based on experience:

Mechanical Technician I

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1–2 years of related mechanical experience
  • Basic technical training preferred

Mechanical Technician II

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Trade school or vocational training in a mechanical field
  • 2–4 years of related experience

Mechanical Technician III

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • Leadership or mentoring experience preferred


Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with hand and power tools
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and schematics
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments
  • Understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and data entry
  • Basic math skills
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards is a plus
