Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled Technician to join an Electrical Engineering Lab supporting the design, development, testing, and evaluation of advanced electronic and electromechanical systems. This hands-on role works closely with engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle, assisting with prototype fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, testing, inspection, rework, and repair of complex products and support equipment.
The ideal candidate enjoys solving technical problems, working with sophisticated laboratory equipment, and supporting engineers in bringing new products from concept through testing and validation. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician who thrives in a collaborative engineering environment and takes pride in producing high-quality work.
Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support engineers in the design, development, fabrication, assembly, testing, and validation of new electronic and electromechanical systems
- Assist in developing schematics, design specifications, parts lists, and other engineering documentation while providing recommendations for design improvements
- Assemble, inspect, troubleshoot, rework, repair, and modify complex electronic, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems
- Perform prototype builds and equipment assembly using engineering drawings, sketches, specifications, and verbal instructions
- Conduct laboratory testing, experiments, calibration, alignment, and performance verification using a variety of specialized test equipment
- Diagnose equipment failures and perform root cause troubleshooting to support product development and engineering investigations
- Fabricate mechanical and electrical components from engineering drawings and prepare test samples for evaluation
- Assemble, repair, and rework printed circuit boards containing both surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole components
- Review engineering designs, tooling, and test equipment for functionality, accuracy, and manufacturability
- Document testing activities, record results, and prepare technical reports to support engineering teams
- Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and work areas while following established quality and safety standards
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree or two-year technical degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a technician supporting engineering, manufacturing, production, or prototype development environments
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, engineering sketches, and technical documentation
- Experience assembling, testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying electronic and electromechanical equipment
- Hands-on experience conducting laboratory testing, calibration, equipment alignment, and performance verification
- Experience generating accurate test data, documenting results, and supporting engineering investigations
- Strong troubleshooting skills involving electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to producing high-quality work
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ten (10) or more years of experience supporting engineering product development, prototype builds, laboratory testing, or manufacturing environments
- Experience assembling, repairing, and reworking printed circuit boards with both surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole components
- Experience fabricating mechanical and electrical components from engineering drawings or sketches
- Familiarity with prototype development, engineering laboratories, or research and development environments
- Experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, signal generators, environmental test equipment, or other electronic laboratory instrumentation
- Knowledge of engineering documentation practices, configuration control, and quality inspection processes
