Job DescriptionEnergy Regulatory Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking an Energy Regulatory Associate Attorney to join a prestigious Am Law firm in Washington, D.C.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney with 2-4 years of energy regulatory experience to join a nationally recognized Energy Regulatory practice. The team advises clients across the nuclear, electric, renewable energy, oil and gas, and LNG industries on complex regulatory, transactional, and policy matters before key federal agencies, including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Department of Energy (DOE), and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on regulatory matters involving the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Department of Energy (DOE).

  • Represent clients in proceedings before the NRC, DOE, FERC, and other federal agencies.

  • Counsel clients on advanced reactor licensing, nuclear energy projects, nuclear export controls, and other nuclear regulatory matters.

  • Assist with regulatory approvals for energy infrastructure, LNG, renewable energy, and electric power projects.

  • Conduct legal research and prepare regulatory filings, memoranda, and agency submissions.

  • Advise clients on compliance with federal energy regulations and evolving regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary legal teams on sophisticated energy transactions, infrastructure projects, and policy initiatives.

  • Work directly with clients on cutting-edge matters at the intersection of energy, business, law, and public policy.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Active membership in a U.S. state bar.

  • 2-4 years of experience in energy regulatory law.

  • Experience handling Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or Department of Energy (DOE) nuclear matters is required.

  • Experience with federal energy regulatory agencies such as FERC is a plus.

  • Excellent legal research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills.

  • Strong academic credentials and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $235,000-$310,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
