Position Summary
The Director of sterile processing collaborates and assists with the development of departmental goals and objectives consistent with the organization strategic plan related to the OR.

<li>Manages, directs, and coordinates the operation of sterile processing assuring maximum utilization of available resources.</li>
<li>Provides overall leadership to the sterile processing department by developing goals and objectives which align with organizational values.</li>
<li>Oversees the development of policies which affects the sterilization processes of surgical and procedural areas.</li>
<li>Monitors and establishes processes to ensure that all practices of the sterile processing department are within the established guidelines of the appropriate regulatory agencies.</li>
<li>Develops goals and objectives for sterile processing based on interpretation of the policy and goals of surgical services.</li>
<li>Develops and implements a plan to establish priorities and to achieve short- and long-term goals.</li>
<li>Ensures the department understands and supports the vision of the hospital.</li>
<li>Initiates changes in or develop new policies, procedures and/or methods based on AAMI standards.</li>
<li>Ensures the most effective operations of sterile processing through program development, process improvement and coordination/integration of processes within surgical services.</li>
<li>Reviews and provides recommendations and support to other departments on issues related to sterile processing such as purchasing of additional operating room instruments.</li>

<li>Analyzes and evaluates ongoing department programs to identify areas where adjustments and improvements are needed.</li>

<li>Works with the vendors on loaner and consigned trays and ensures vendor adherence to current policies for loaner tray delivery, etc.</li>

<li>Understands quality control and expected results for POCT tests performed.</li>

<li>Expedites all specimens based on the level of priority (e.g., STAT, Timed, Routine and etc.).</li>
<li>Acts as the front line for laboratory customer service by; disseminating excellent communication over the phone and in person, resolves specimen issues presented by clinical staff and is able to identify/resolve specimen recollection opportunities.</li>
