JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Director of Nurses in the Care Center, the Registered Nurse will assist the DON and ADON with planning, coordinating and managing the RN clinical services for residents, and implement care as necessary and in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Position communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
 
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
1. Make rounds on all residents twice a shift, with frequency of once in the morning and once in the afternoon.
2. Assess critical residents every two hours and as needed.
3. Evaluate all residents who have fallen in the past forty-eight hours and document findings on the accident report and in the resident record. After completion, place incident report in the Director of Nurses – Care Center office.
4. Assist in emergencies, to include assessing the resident, notification of physician and family members, documentation, etc.
5. Be available to both nurses’ stations, assist LPN's as needed with clinical decisions, supervise all resident care provided by the LPN’s and CNA’s, and provide direct patient care as needed.
6. Make rounds with all physicians that are primary physician for resident while in Care Center.
7. Answer the telephone and call lights when the LPN’s are administering medications, and at other times when necessary.
8. Report any equipment malfunction, or supply shortage.
9. Assist with scheduling when needed to cover openings.
10. Assist with education and in-services for staff.
11. Assist with weekend supervision as needed.
12. Assure that residents receive proper care in a timely manner.
13. Assist the DON payroll and Performance Improvement Program.
14. Ensure that residents are in the dining room in a timely manner, that LPN’s assist/supervise/monitor meals and see that residents who require assistance with meals receive it.
15. Leave a written report for the Director of Nursing – Care Center on any problems with residents, staff, or resident’s families. Please note your interaction in these circumstances.
16. Complete other duties as assigned/needed/necessary.
Requirements:
Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion of high school, and completion of Registered Nurse Training course of study.
Training: Management skills with experience in planning, organizing, implementing, facilitating, interviewing, counseling, and verbal and written communications.
Licensure, Certification, Registration: Must have and maintain an unencumbered Georgia Registered Nurse license, and Basic Life Support CPR certification.

<li>Reports needed maintenance/hazardous conditions to Charge Nurse, Director of Surgical Services, and Maintenance and make an entry into the maintenance log.</li>
<li>Ensures departmental adherence to proper infection control, OSHA, and safety standards.</li>
<li>Coordinates and participates in continuing education.</li>
<li>Responsible for maintaining organizational facilities in accordance with TJC, federal and state, organizational and departmental policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Maintains stock and expiration dates in central processing.</li>
<li>Posts cases, putting necessary information in posting book and computer, notifies anesthesia of cases.</li>
<li>Handles and prepares specimens correctly.</li>
<li>Gives complete report when relinquishing care to another area.</li>
<li>Assists with setting up sterile trays and packages for autoclaving, keeping accurate records of autoclave usage and recommended biological testing.</li>
<li>Assists with setting up Steris machine, keeping accurate records of Steris usage and weekly biological testing.</li>

Requirements:
Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion high school, and a graduate of an accredited registered nursing program.
Formal Training: A degree in nursing from an accredited program.
Licensure, Certification, Registration: Must have and maintain an unencumbered State of Georgia RN license, BLS, ACLS, and PALS required. ACLS/PALS required within 90 days of date of hire. CNOR Certification is preferred.
Work Experience: Six months to one-year related experience and/or training in an OR setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Tools and Equipment Used: Calculator, personal computer &amp; spreadsheet, telephone, facsimile machine, paper shredder, copier, printer, general office equipment.
Schedule: 4 - 10-hour shifts/week; Monday - Friday; no scheduled cases on weekends or holidays; Modified On-call schedule (Monday thru Friday only).

Requirements:Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

<li>Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, verifying patient information and documenting chief complaints and medical history. </li>
<li>Measure and record visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and basic ocular measurements. </li>
<li>Assist in administering eye drops, dilation, and anesthetic agents under physician direction. </li>
<li>Perform and assist with diagnostic tests such as OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, topography, and other imaging procedures. </li>
<li>Prepare patients and assist the physician during examinations and minor procedures. </li>
<li>Accurately document examination findings and physician orders in the electronic medical record (EMR). </li>

Qualifications:
Education &amp; Experience:
