Role Description: The Construction Field Inspector 2 is a full-time, on-site role based in West Palm Beach, FL. This position is responsible for performing daily inspections, documenting findings and reporting to stakeholders on construction work to verify compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and applicable regulations. The inspector documents site conditions on a daily basis, prepares detailed field reports, photographs work progress, and tracks issues for follow-up and resolution, ensuring the quality of work performed by the contractor aligns with contract plans and specifications.
The role involves coordinating with project managers, engineers, contractors, and public officials to communicate findings, clarify requirements, and support timely corrective actions. The inspector also monitors safety practices, observes materials and installation methods, attends site meetings, and helps ensure that project milestones and quality standards are met.
Primary responsibility is to assist Jacobs Project Managers with the completion of Palm Beach County (PBC) Facilities Development & Operations (FDO) Department, Capital Improvements Division (CID) projects inspections, construction documentation and Client reporting. The Project Managers are located in the CID office, which is the same home office as the Inspector.
Qualifications:
• Foundational knowledge of construction practices, building codes, and inspection procedures, with the ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong observational, documentation, and report-writing skills, including accurate note-taking, use of digital tools, and clear communication of findings.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills to work professionally with contractors, project teams, and stakeholders in the field.
• Ability to work on-site in varying outdoor conditions, stand or walk for extended periods, and safely navigate active construction environments.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills to identify issues and support practical solutions.
• Basic proficiency with computers and mobile devices, including office software, email, and digital reporting systems.
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or coursework in construction, engineering, or inspection is preferred.
Experience with field inspection of various construction activities and materials is preferred.
This position requires a forty (40) hours per week commitment, primarily at job sites for Palm Beach County projects under construction, with some office work in the Palm Beach County, Capital Improvement Division CID office.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to job sites in and around West Palm Beach, FL
