The Environmental Security Program at the Henry L. Stimson Center is the premier forum for understanding globally connected risks and informing local and regional resilience strategies. As environmental shocks and geopolitical tensions grow, governments and institutions need credible analysis, cross-sector partnerships, and practical tools to navigate complexity. The Environmental Security Program brings clarity and collaboration to the front lines of policy and practice, shaping smarter investments for peace and resilience. With cross-sectoral, solutions-driven analysis, innovative communications, and inclusive dialogue among international stakeholders across governments, civil society, industry, and communities, the Environmental Security Program works to illuminate emerging risks and advance pragmatic resilience-building strategies for communities and countries. 
The Program expects this internship to start in March 2026 and go through August 2026.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities for this internship include:
<ul>
<li>Providing administrative support for New Security Beat, including corresponding with potential authors, working with copyeditors, publishing concise and catchy social media, and generating ideas to strengthen the platform's thought leadership in environmental security.</li>
<li>Developing and implementing strategies to expand the Program's social media presence, including through content creation and audience engagement.</li>
<li>Assisting with research and analysis in support of the Program's publications, briefings, and strategic initiatives. Current thematic areas include climate resilience in coastal and/or conflict-affected states; illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing; critical mineral supply chains; climate, peace, and conflict connections; and global population dynamics. </li>
<li>Providing logistical, administrative, and operational support for Program events and activities, including drafting meeting summaries, and coordinating follow-up actions.</li>
<li>Monitoring and synthesizing emerging trends, policy developments, and breaking news across all of the Program's focus areas. </li>
<li>Supporting cross-program collaboration by sharing relevant research findings and coordinating with other Stimson Center programs on overlapping thematic priorities.</li>
</ul>

Qualifications:
Applicants should be highly motivated and sincere in their desire for an internship that is challenging and professional in nature and focused on the intersection of environment, population, and security. Interns at the Stimson Center can expect close interaction with program staff, including their respective program directors. Intern supervisors are asked to prepare an evaluation of the intern's performance at the end of the internship, and interns are encouraged to evaluate their experience with the Program and at Stimson more broadly.

The desired candidate should have a bachelor's degree in environmental science or studies, natural resource management, geography, political science, foreign policy or other relevant fields. Strong candidates will have experience in research, writing, and editing, the ability to work productively independently and in a team, and a commitment to high-quality work. Experience working on climate resilience, climate finance, and/or communications would be an asset for this position.

Qualifications 
Classroom Instruction
Each student is required to complete 36-40 hours of classroom work. All students are required to pass (with 80%) all of the tests administered during the classroom portion. (Each student has 3 attempts to pass)
If a student does not pass the classroom phase of the course they will not be placed into the clinicals.
Clinical Practicum
Each student is required to complete 75 hours of supervised practicum in a long-term care facility. During the practicum, the student must perform all required skills successfully. The first 16 hours of practicum is with the class instructor. Absence during this time will result in being excused from the program.
During the practicum, the student may be assigned to work with a preceptor who will assist the student in organization and time management. At the completion of the program the preceptor as well as the instructor will be given an evaluation sheet to complete regarding the students progress during the clinical.
All skills checklists booklets (RCP’s) not signed during the classroom must be demonstrated and signed off during the clinicals by the clinical instructor, or other licensed nursing professional. Completed checklist (RCP) must be submitted at the completion of the clinicals with all required skills completed or will not be eligible for the required state exam.
A “clinical sign-in record” is supplied to each student. This form must be completed by the student and signed by a qualified licensed professional on a daily basis. The student must include the following information on the sheet: date and actual hours worked, signature of student, cosigned by licensed supervisor.
 Additional Information 
Students are required to pass a criminal background check along with a TB test and physical prior to starting the course. Attendance to all classroom sessions is mandatory in order to meet the program requirements as set by the Indiana State Department of Health. Unsatisfactory performance or attendance issues may result in dismissal from the course/program. Students should check with the facility for details on the dress code requirements.
When a student that successfully completes the course he/she will be awarded a certificate of completion, will get a scheduled test date, and will have the scheduled test paid for by Miller’s Merry Manor if hired and in good standing as an employee. If the student does not pass the 1st test it may be retaken and paid for by Miller’s a second time. If not an employee, your application and certificate of completion will be given to you to schedule your own test at your own expense.

Additional Information PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS including, but not limited to the following:
 Standing
 Most tasks are performed from a standing position.
 Walking
 For short distances for short durations. Surfaces include ceramic tile"bricks" with linoleum in some food process areas. Height of work surfaces is between 36" and 48".
 Sitting
 Paperwork is normally completed in an office at a desk or table.
 Lifting
 Bulk product deliveries are made twice a week or more and are unloaded by the team member using a hand truck. Deliveries may include cases of ingredients and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds with dimensions of up to 3' x 1.5'. Cases are usually lifted from floor and stacked onto shelves up to 72"high.
 Carrying
 Large cans, weighing 3 pounds, 7 ounces, are carried from the workstation to storage shelves. Occasionally, pizza sauce weighing 30 pounds is carried from the storage room to the front of the store. Trays of pizza dough are carried three at a time over short distances, and weigh approximately 12 pounds per tray.
 Pushing
 To move trays which are placed on dollies. A stack of trays on a dolly is approximately 24"- 30" and requires a force of up to 7.5 pounds to push. Trays may also be pulled.
 Climbing
 Team members must infrequently navigate stairs or climb a ladder to change prices on signs, wash walls, perform maintenance.
 Stooping/Bending
 Forward bending at the waist is necessary at the pizza assembly station. Toe room is present, but workers are unable to flex their knees while standing at this station. Duration of this position is approximately 30 - 45 seconds at one time, repeated continuously during the day. Forward bending is also present at the front counter and when stocking ingredients.
 Crouching/Squatting
 Performed occasionally to stock shelves and to clean low areas.
 Reaching
 Reaching is performed continuously; up, down and forward. Workers reach above 72"occasionally to turn on/off oven controls, change prices on sign, and lift and lower objects to and from shelves. Workers reaching down to perform such tasks as scooping cornmeal from a plastic barrel, or washing dishes. Workers reach forward when obtaining topping ingredients, cleaning work surfaces, or answering phones.
 Hand Tasks
 Eye-hand coordination is essential. Use of hands is continuous during the day. Frequently activities require use of one or both hands. Shaping pizza dough requires frequent and forceful use of forearms and wrists. Workers must manipulate a pizza peel when removing pizza from the oven, and when using the rolling cutter. Frequent and/or forceful pinching is required in the assembly of cardboard pizza boxes. Team Members must be able to grasp cans, the phone, the pizza cutter and pizza peel, and pizza boxes.
