Job DescriptionEnergy Regulatory Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking an Energy Regulatory Associate Attorney to join a prestigious Am Law firm in Washington, D.C.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney with 5-7 years of energy regulatory experience to join a nationally recognized Energy Regulatory practice. The team advises clients across the energy industry on sophisticated regulatory, transactional, and policy matters involving natural gas, LNG, nuclear energy, renewables, and electric power before key federal agencies, including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and Department of Energy (DOE).

Responsibilities

  • Represent natural gas pipeline companies in regulatory proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

  • Handle complex FERC matters, including pipeline rate proceedings and regulatory compliance issues.

  • Advise clients on Section 4 natural gas rate cases and other pipeline regulatory matters.

  • Counsel clients on matters involving LNG projects, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and other energy infrastructure developments.

  • Prepare regulatory filings, legal memoranda, briefs, and agency submissions.

  • Advise clients on compliance with evolving federal energy regulations and regulatory policy.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary legal teams on complex energy transactions, projects, and first-of-their-kind regulatory matters.

  • Work directly with clients on strategic issues at the intersection of business, energy policy, and federal regulation.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Active membership in a U.S. state bar.

  • 5-7 years of energy regulatory experience.

  • Significant experience representing natural gas pipeline companies before FERC.

  • Experience handling Section 4 natural gas rate cases is strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with regulatory matters involving the NRC, DOE, LNG, renewable energy, or other energy infrastructure projects is a plus.

  • Excellent legal research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills.

  • Strong academic credentials and the ability to manage sophisticated regulatory matters in a collaborative, client-focused environment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $365,000-$420,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
